Donald Trump on Oregon shooting: ‘People are going to slip through the cracks’
Washington Times ^ | 10/02/2015 | By David Sherfinski

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Friday there are always going to be people who “slip though the cracks” and that there are no easy solutions to mass shootings like the one Thursday at a community college in Oregon.

Mr. Trump said there are “very strong laws on the books,” but that “you’re always going to have problems.”

“I mean, we have millions and millions of people, we have millions of sick people all over the world —it can happen all over the world, and it does happen all over the world, by the way, but this is sort of unique to this country, the school shootings,” Mr. Trump said via phone on “Morning Joe.”

“And you’re going to have difficulty no matter what,” he said. “Probably we’ll find out with him, like we did with numerous of the others, that gee whiz, they were loners and they were probably sick. You know, oftentimes this happens and the neighborhood says, you know, we sort of saw that about him, and it really looked like he could be a problem.”

A gunman, who has been identified as Chris Harper Mercer, shot and killed nine people, wounding seven at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

“But you know, it’s awfully hard to put somebody in [an] institution for the rest of their lives based on the fact that he [looks] like he could be a problem. It is a terrible situation. It’s huge mental illness,” he said. “You’re going to have these things happen, and it’s a horrible thing to behold.”

Mr. Trump said that “for the next million years, you’re going to have difficulty.”

“People are going to slip through the cracks, and even if you did great mental health programs, people are going to slip through the cracks,” he said.

Well, Donald, you could start by getting rid of free kill zones.

There is an easy solution to prevent mass shootings: ban liberalism, and execute liberals. Trump is right in that firearm restrictions or bannings will do nothing to stop mass shootings, of course.

“He said alot more than the headline would suggest. “

It is kind of hard to fit all 575 words into a headline.

Donald, focus. This is about protecting gun rights, and preventing the Left from putting the cart before the horse.

There is a way to handle these inevitable attacks by mentally ill people-

protect yourself

what can the government do? Help people protect themselves by passing common sense NEW gun law - concealed carry accross all 50 states

“this is sort of unique to this country, the school shootings”

That’s the narrative, but it’s not really true.

Trump is surely not the politician.

He didn’t try to use this and he didn’t try to pretend he could make it better if elected.

He didn’t demagogue.

Well, Donald, you could start by getting rid of free kill zones.

You could put 5 or 10 armed guards on a large campus and someone with bad intent could easily murder an entire classroom room full of innocents.

It's the way it is.

As much as these Schools get from Taxpayers they should be safe.

GOP should make the argument that Unions cost so much money that we can't make are School safer.

As Rush said today that we do it at Airports but not Schools

That Guns have been illegal in New York City sense 1911.

I do not like Trump, but what he says here is reasonable. Bad stuff happens, and it always will. It is horrifically tragic. Prevention of such events is a worthy goal, but it does not justify the destruction of a free republic in the vain hope of attaining a perfectly safe society.

Why not have local police hire a segment for school patrols, train and assign (rotate) a cop to patrol each school in their district. It couldn’t cost more than the Obama lunch program or common core and the schools could have a trusted guard in place.

I think it would also teach kids that cops are good :-)
