The Senate's No. 2 Republican wants to extend the national borrowing limit through the 2016 elections, hoping to take full advantage of a political opening with House Speaker John Boehner's sudden decision to retire.

With the Treasury Department warning on Thursday that the debt ceiling will be reached by Nov. 5, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn is eager to see the White House and congressional leaders cut a major deal on a fiscal package that includes a long-term increase of the national borrowing limit.

"I personally would like to see Speaker Boehner help clear the deck for the people who follow him and make that transition a little bit easier," Cornyn, a Texas Republican, told CNN.

"I think it makes sense to do it until 2017," Cornyn said of a debt ceiling increase.

See as the national debt has been almost frozen at 18.3 Trillion for around 180 dayz now.

Gubbamint is borrowing $$$ from other government sources to keep operations moving. This will have to be paid back.

The national debt is likely over 19 Trillion currently, can't see it because it is being hidden by accounting tricks.

When the debt ceiling is raised, they will likely raise it passed the 20 trillion mark to account for the frozen debt plus what is needed to carry on through till 2017.

When Obozo leaves office, the debt ceiling will probably be around 21-22 Trillion.....and counting.

Sen. Cornyn is an embarrassment to Texas. He should be tarred and feathered instead of reelected.

This is so there will be no vote in 2016 when many of them are running for reelection.

I would have been better off voting for Abortion Barbie than this gutless worm last year.

What would the difference have been had Davis won or Dems retained the Senate?

I voted 3rd party rather than vote for Cornyn. What he’s done was utterly predictable.

I’m new to the neighborhood so that was my first opportunity to shun him at the ballot box. The McDaniel betrayal solidified my decision.

Felt good then and feels even better now, watching what he’s done since.

“Business (Bribes) as usual”

These stupid Republicans are so corrupted that they won’t even dare to “upset the apple cart.”

“The fix is in” and always was and always will be unless we DRASTICALLY CHANGE both the House and Senate.

However, that’s the dream of only the “old” generation in America and the “new” generation (not yet having real world experience yet” think that there is no problem at all and the will continue to ride unicorns while eating the candy handed out by the government and total abandonment of the only impediment to having FUN....RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONE’S OWN ACTIONS.

Way back in my younger life when anyone would bring up the possibility that the Communists would invade us and take over our country I would tell them “America will be defeated, not by the communists, but by our own government in Washington D.C..

After all of these years and fierce arguments to defend my stand, I find my prediction is materializing in front of my face...and worse yet...during my lifetime.

The “death knell” came the day we placed a totally incompetent black Muslim and foreign citizen as the President simply because he was black and it was a black’s turn to be president. This time they think it’s a woman’s time to be president...and who knows...it just might happen.

this upcoming election is not just “coming to a crossroad” in the American dream, it is “coming to the grave yard” of the American dream.

I’m afraid that we have waited too late, for the new generation sees nothing we see through our eyes.

They did not run against each other, as Barbie ran against greg Abbott for governor.

And, so the ignorance grows. Instead of seeking to cut spending to live within the anticipated revenues, these a$$clowns continue to whistle past the graveyard and just vote to increase the debt ceiling.

BOTH parties need to go. Time for the tree of liberty to be watered?
