Russian air strikes followed by massive Syrian ground operations

Russia’s first airstrikes in Syria have been followed immediately by a series of major Syrian army ground operations targeting rebel positions, including in some areas not controlled by ISIS.

The information furthers reports from U.S. officials that the Russian strikes on Wednesday targeted U.S.-backed rebels in Syrian neighborhoods where the rebels have received CIA arms, funding and training.

Russia has insisted it only targeted ISIS positions. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly that the Russian air forces are working in conjunction with the Syria military to “exclusively” target ISIS.

“Rumors that the targets of these strikes were not [ISIS] positions were groundless,” Lavrov stated.

A Russian Defense Ministry statement said the Russian air force targeted and destroyed eight positions belonging to ISIS on Wednesday. An additional statement on the ministry’s website says “four more ISIS facilities” were targeted late at night.

“Su-24M and Su-25 aircraft performed 8 sorties eliminating the staff of terrorist groupings and an ammunition depot near Idlib as well as a three-level HQ centre near Hamah,” read the statement.

“As a result of pinpoint bomb attack, a plant aimed for preparation of cars for explosion located in the north of Homs is completely destroyed,” the statement read.

French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian disputed the Russian claims of only targeting ISIS, telling lawmakers in Paris: “Curiously, they didn’t hit Islamic State. I will let you draw a certain number of conclusions yourselves.”

When... Just exactly -when- was the last time -we- got massive participation from any ally? Maybe Vietnam? Otherwise I think we’d have to go back all the way to WWII to find an example.

Putin sending a big message. He means business and other countries are taking note.

I bet Obama has put us in stand down mode in the region. Just what the Russkies demanded.

Russia plays to win.

America plays for photo ops and for some votes.

Except the fools in DC want to make them a non-ally and enforce some kid of no fly zone to them.

What Assad does in his country is his business. He asked for Russian help, not ours.

We need to stand aside and then get out of there.

Iraq is lost and so is Afghanistan. Neither will be recovered, they could not be held by this clown we are being misled by now.

We need to get out until we can regroup and then consider if we want it at all.

I think you are wrong. odungo is fool enough to escalate this to protect ISIS... that is what he has been doing all along.

Yes. They want to learn how to further “transform” America...and how to do it quicker.

Well, he could have removed Assad to make room for ISIS but he didn’t, so he has not been escalating this all along. And he has constrained our so-called air attacks against ISIS to just a trickle of inconsequential attacks for PR purposes. Many aircraft return from missions with all their bombs still loaded; this is a well known fact.

Obama will retreat and back off, just like he did in the Ukrainian situation. He relishes the opportunity to diminish the United States in the eyes of the world whenever he can.

In the business world, they talk about “Opportunity Costs”.

This term describes the fact that a dollar spent in one area can’t be spent in another area.

For example, a dollar spent in inventory can’t be used in advertising.

This forces managers to prioritize their expenditures.

It is the same with time.

One hour spent learning about transgenderism is an hour that can’t be spent war-gaming things in Syria.

The Democrats have set their priorities a long time ago.

We’ll see how that turns out.

Once the Syrian Army aided by Russians, Iranians and their proxies defeat all Syrian opposition except ISIS, then they can ask the rest of the world to choose between Assad or ISIS. What do you think the response will be for most countries except maybe the U.S.?

I have seen this comment several times.

Not being a military expert...it would seem to me that the most dangerous part of a mission is landing a fully bombed up plane.

Is this a plan by Obamski to add additional stress / accidents to the flyers....?
