The man poised to be the next House speaker said Monday that the U.S. needs to assume a more aggressive posture around the world, saying the key to foreign policy is making it “painful” for countries to misbehave.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy backed calls for a U.S.-enforced no-fly zone over Syria, saying it would boost the fight against the Islamic State rebels and also curtail the Syrian regime’s ability to strike its own citizens.

McCarthy would make an excellent speaker, ... for the Islamic State.
The uniparty that created the mess in Syria by meddling there in the first place.

The one good thing that came out of that policy is it hastened the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Otherwise, I agree; picking sides in the Middle East has almost always been a fool's game.
Heard a quote from McCarthy yesterday on a Tucson conservative radio show, and when asked what he would do first off in the senate, he said wanted shovel ready jobs and rejigger the bureaucracy.
“We’re going to make sure we get the highway bill done,” McCarthy told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “We’re going to make sure that we transform these agencies, because these agencies that that we have today — we’d never craft them in the same manner. Look at the flow chart, look at the duplication. Why don’t we go through and revamp the entire process so they work?”
