The owners of an Oregon bakery are refusing to pay state-ordered damages to a lesbian couple after a dispute over a same-sex wedding cake, reports say.
Aaron and Melissa Klein, who own Sweet Cakes by Melissa, were ordered by the Bureau of Labor and Industries to pay $135,000 to Rachel and Laurel Bowman-Cryer, reports OregonLive.com.
The Kleins have filed an appeal of the ruling, claiming financial hardship even though crowdfunding efforts have raised more than $500,000 for the couple, according to OregonLive.com.
Herb Grey, a lawyer representing the Kleins, tells Reuters the couple has raised far less than $500,000, but he would not say how much has been raised.
"They continue to stand on their well-established constitutional rights to live and work based on their values and beliefs," Grey said. "Religion is a protected class just like sexual orientation is."
Their refusal to pay damages has resulted in the state going to court to obtain a property lien against the Kleins.

The SCOTUS members who voted for the evil, irrational vice of sodomy which defies Natural Law (Reason) and God’s Laws, need to be put in prison for Treason——throwing out our Constitution and Rule of Law (Higher Laws/God’s)) for Satan’s laws.
Would this be happening if a Muslim bakery told a gay couple that they would not bake a cake for their wedding? I bet not.

I fully supporty them. But Unfortunately I don’t think it will go well..
Conservatives are required to obey all laws, courts etc. Liberals and democrats can do anything they want at any time and get away with it.
The Klein's are free to exercise their religion as they see fit. But running a business is not a requirement of the free exercise of their religion. Where their religious beliefs come into conflict with the rights of others is at the center of this whole issue, and personally I think it should never have reached this stage. I think the actions taken against the Klein's is wildly out of proportion to the "damages" suffered. The couple in question should just have been told to find another bakery and the Klein's - and every other merchant - should have a right to make it clear who they will and will not serve.

I think "arbitrary and capricious" is legal standard for review of this action which should be tossed out by the first judge that hears it.
