Vladimir Putin has signed a decree drafting nearly 150,000 conscripts into the Russian military as Moscow's warplanes unleashed a new wave of airstrikes in Syria.

The timing of the move – on the very day Russia entered the Syrian conflict yesterday – will raise suspicions the Russian President is planning a wider offensive to prop up his Syrian counterpart.

It also comes after one of Putin's staunchest allies called on him to send in Muslim ground troops to defeat the Islamic State and other Islamist extremist groups.

The Decree is the usual seasonal call-up.

Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria in the last 10 days and will soon join government forces and their Lebanese Hezbollah allies in a major ground offensive backed by Russian air strikes, two Lebanese sources told Reuters.

Wow! The militant boys in ISIS just thought they would establish their caliphate. Instead, they’ll be sent to hell by Emperor Putin’s army of Muslim haters. Who would have guessed things could turn out so splendidly for everyone but Obama and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Vladimir Putin has signed a decree drafting nearly 150,000 conscripts into the Russian military as Moscow's warplanes unleashed a new wave of airstrikes in Syria

This have nothing to do with the Syrian campaign. Russia has consciption with 1 year mandatory service for the male population. The draft is done twice a year: October 1st-December 31 and April 1- June 30. Every young man who has turned 18 years old and is fit for service has to join. Nothing has changed in this since the Soviet times. Except for the service term.

The Daily Mail draws conclusions without proper knowledge on the issue.

Here I go again, seeing logic in Putin's moves. We keep reading about how those "moderate" rebels have been very untrustworthy, providing safe have to maniacs, going over to their side, and using their energy against Assad instead of ISIS. Weren't we assured that the training and arms we provide were only being used against ISIS? And now we're hearing that Putin is attacking US supported fighters that weren't attacking ISIS, but instead causing even more destabilization.

The only thing that makes and sense is to bomb everyone who's fighting the established government. The enemy is chaos which creates a vacuum. US policy will keep that going, in spite of no past history of good things happening when regimes are toppled.

I'm wondering where Europe is on this. Their culture is very quickly gone if Syria and northern Iraq can't be stabilized.

Yes, signing this is just a routine duty of the Russian President as the Supreme Commander. Interestingly, that it’s the Defense Minister who signs the simultaneous discharge orders.

Ruskies calling up 150k conscripts? Wow..they’z serious.

So, now we have China sending naval assets, Russian hardware, navy, troops, air power and Iranian/Iranian proxy troops heading for Syria.

Obozo...you're such a loser.

Will these new conscripts be sent straight into a war zone without combat training? What about the existing motorized rifle regiments?

He didn't just "let it happen". He actively fomented it.
