Syria has been a client state of Russia or the Soviet Union for over 50 years. At least since the pro-Nasser Baa’th party took it over.
Heard Rubio today say the Russians are setting up a permanent air field in Syria giving, which gives the impression that it is something new. Russia has had military flights out of Syria for a very long time, and Syria has been using Russian military advisers and equipment for about over the same time period.
