Step Aside Detroit: There Is A New "Worst" City For Housing In The U.S.
zh ^ | 09/29/2015 | Tyler Durden

It will come as no surprise that the west, with San Diego, is where the gains are still frothiest: after all the Chinese "hot money" exporters are rushing to park their funds before the exit door slams shut, and are doing so as close to home as possible.

What was surprising is the other end of the spectrum, because as Case-Shiller clearly shows, Detroit - after staging a brief dead cat bounce in the aftermath of its bankruptcy and since sliding once again - may no longer be the worst city for home prices in the US. It has now been displaced by a city which many speculate will be nothing short of the "next Detroit."

Years ago, I used to work for the VA Regional Office in Chicago, with the Loan Guarantee Division, and believe me, I got to see my share of South Side homes that had been trashed after the property went into default, was foreclosed on, and title reverted to the VA. And this was back in the 1970’s probably a much more sedate time than now, as there were virtually NO immigrants in that part of Chicago at that time.

But there were live free fire zones on the streets even then.

What about it. My property values have increased over ten percent in the last three years. In Cleveland, the city of Cleveland. They are close to their all time highs.

Chicago will keep increasing property taxes to get themselves out of their deficit. They will focus on property taxes because the property can’t get up and leave. This will keep real estate prices going down. While real estate can’t leave, owners can abandon property, just like in Detroit.

Which Cleveland are they talking about? Cleveland, Mississippi, Cleveland, Tennessee, or Cleveland, Texas?

Just by looking at the chart yes every city below the line is obviously democrat run, conversely by looking at the chart, without looking them up, I can only identify MAYBE three cities above the chart that might be republican, but I would think across the board of all major cities in the country, the ones doing the best or at least holding their own are republican run, and lets face it no city is doing anywhere near as well as it should be; the whole country indeed the whole world is suffering tremendously under the obama regime.

ANY area/city in Texas is awful... It is the hottest/coldest, highest/lowest, driest/most humid place between Earth and Pluto.

I have spent months in mid Texas in early 1944 and I have spent weeks in southern Texas post WWII. I can understand your feelings.

Don’t believe everything you’ve heard in late night comedy routines. Outside the inner city, and as long as you don’t mind winters that are better than Chicago or Buffalo, but that’s not saying much, the quality of life at an affordable cost is excellent. World class museums, a symphony usually ranked second or third best on the planet, about a half dozen universities (Case Western is an example), world’s top cardiac care hospital (the Cleveland Clinic), a national park and an extensive metro park system, a Great Lake for boating, very good schools as long as you’re not stuck in Cleveland City District, some superb albeit little known restaurants, and suburban housing with land that’s a fraction of the cost of anything on either coast or Chicago. We’re used to all the jokes based on the 1960’s and usually just smile at the ignorance of people who tell them but have never actually been here.

Public and private students in Texas show whites are the minority by a long shot and more schools are ranking below average every year - 52% Hispanic, 29% White (greatschools.org). The Kenyan is determined to bring in more middle eastern muslims to Dallas and San Antonio. You can't walk across UT Austin without being hollered at by them and the music hall is nothing but native speaking Asians (more tutition $$$ than in-state students).

Yep, wherever you are, whoever you are, stay put.

You probably couldn't survive Texas.

Forget the weather; most Texans can put three rounds ("Mozambique drill" style) in you before you can ask, "Am I trespassing on your place?"

All residents of the city of Cleveland can get a school voucher worth $4,200 per year to use at any private or parochial school in the city. $5,200-$9,500 for high school. That significantly reduces or eliminates most of the cost of a parochial school education.

Outside of a very few select suburban school districts, none of the others can hold a candle to the Private/Parochial Schools that have consistent high achieving graduates.

Cleveland is one of the best kept secrets in the country for educated middle and high earners. A family making $100k a year in Cleveland is comparable to the lifestyle of $250k or more in most major cities with less amenities, poorer housing stock and no better or even worse weather.
