Russia begins conducting airstrikes in Syria, U.S. official says

By Andrew Roth and Daniela Deane September 30 at 8:44 AM

I don’t think there is much for the Russians to coordinate with the US in this administration’s unserious war against ISIS. This headline from October 14, 2014 edition of WSJ

“The campaign against Serbia in 1999 averaged 138 strike sorties daily. Against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria: seven.”

Not much more activity since then. Putin has as much chance of accidentally hitting a US jet over Syria as I have in winning the 500 million dollar lottery.

Will they be flying across any red lines?

“Ralph Peters says Russia is not bombing the Islamic state like he’s saying but others opposed to Assad.”

They are probably bombing all the rebels. And all are equally bad. What’s the sense in bombing iSIS and leaving Al Nusra out there running around. A jihdi is a jihadi.

In fact, those 6 million dollar men we trained were immediately attacked by Al Nusra the minute they crossed into Syria. Only an idiot would confine their attacks to ISIS. The others would be just as happy to behead Assad and any Christians they can find.

“Peters said Putin is propping up the Shia in the ME that hate the U.S.”

Fascinating. So you believe that the Sunnis do not hate America?

Headline should read, "Russia orders U.S. to cease air operations in Syria. Putin takes control of Syrian airspace".

That is exactly what happened.

Syria helped overthrow Saddam (their enemy). The Gulf Arab states financed the Sunni radicals in Iraq because they feared a Shia state. So your point is wrong and an attempt to protect the real backers of ISIS - the Gulf Arab states.

There is little difference between ISIS and the rest of the anti-Assad rebels except for the Kurds.

I think you are partially incorrect. I for one am quite happy that Russia is propping up Assad. He just sorta sucks, mostly by his succor of Hezbollah.
But he is orders of magnitude better than ANY of the rebel forces. So I will be cheering on Su-24s blasting jihadis.
But I think you are incorrect. Syria did not help depose Saddam. In fact Syria was a conduit for jihadis, IEDs, a hiding place for Chemical weapons, etc.

And you are 100% correct, the Gulf States created ISIS. In fact they bought weapons that we smuggled from Benghazi, to ISIS by way of Turkey. ISIS is pure Sunni.

“Now Fox is saying the Russians aren’t bombing who they claim they are. Ralph Peters says Russia is not bombing the Islamic state like he’s saying but others opposed to Assad. Peters said Putin is propping up the Shia in the ME that hate the U.S. And side with Russia.”

Oh my! Oh my! FOX SAID THIS?!??!

“Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch has partnered with Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal to launch a new 24-hour news network for the Arab world, a move that has drawn mockery from Murdoch’s critics and questions from media experts. First and foremost among those questions is whether a news service linked to the famously pro-Israeli Fox News will resonate among Arab viewers.”

Stuart Varney actually used the word ‘axis’ to refer to the Russian military coalition this AM.

Its a little awkward because we support some of the rebels, but the Russians are right to bomb every rebel group. Speaking of that, maybe McCain should visit the rebels for a few weeks. That might really help out. For safety he should stay in their HQ building.

Wait, where is the bleeding heart liberals in the main stream media crying about collateral damage of innocent women and children being killed by the Russians ?

No, wait, it’s only when the US does it.

Some one correct me if I am wrong. It wasn’t great, but wasn’t Assad ‘somewhat’ protecting Christians in Syria, much moreso than they see under ISIS?

And, also, weren’t a good portion of those Christians some variety of Orthodox....not Russian Orthodox...but orthodox?

I think Christians must still be fairly safe in Syria.

I don’t think any of the “refugees” invading Europe are Christian.

This just in to our news room:

The President is recovering from severe TESTOSTERONE BURNS he suffered during his short photo op meeting with Russian President Putin this week.

Though not as serious as those he suffered during much longer exposure during his October, 2014 meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, doctors advised him to reschedule his planned announcement and celebration of MARTIAL LAW set for this coming New Year’s Eve. He SHOULD, however, be sufficiently recovered to leave DC BEFORE the TRUMP INAUGURATION but to BE PRESENT at his ensuing TRIAL for TREASON!

Updates as they become available.

Yes on both counts. Russia is the traditional protector of Orthodoxy, at least since the 16th-17th centuries.

None of this is simple. None of this is what it appears to American eyes. This situation goes back to before the Crusades.

Have you gotten any sense that Putin is making the protection of the Orthodox Christians a part of his rationale?

I’m going to be honest yon ladies and gems participating in this thread.

I’m so confused about that Mideast situation my head reels as I try to get a grasp. And I am both a news and political junkee, not that I’m especially proud of this.

So American went to war with Saddam on the guise of weapons of mass destruction but it was mostly cause they want to get rid of the guy. The Iraqis hang Saddam, that the Democrats most adored, and Obama took over and pulled out the remaining US soldiers.

Meanwhile Optometrist Assad is all over the place, but mostly doing the bidding of whatever powerful country hangs around and gives him money while he gasses his citizens who have a problem with that.

Meanwhile meanwhile.....Putin, a man’s man but evil, plots to take over the world once again with his own self being a benign but firm dictator, decides that Syria would be a great place to get in a Russian footprint for the Soviet Union Part II.

Meanwhile once more, President Obama threatens Optometrist Assad with fire, brimstone and the horrors of hell should he gas the Syrians but Assad does it anyway. Obama does nothing.

So Putin, filled with testosterone and dreams of glory, is going in and getting rid of those thugs called ISis, thieves, rapists and robbers rounded up on the Internet and no match for any country with just teeny tiny gonads....like Obama.

Whew.

So do I have it right so far? Cause I got more.
