Parole Board Green-Lights Execution of Kelly Gissendaner Despite Pope's Plea
NBC News ^ | 09/29/2015 | Tracy Connor

Georgia's parole board declined Tuesday to commute the death sentence of Kelly Renee Gissendaner— even after Pope Francis called for a halt to her execution.

Gissendaner, who was sentenced to death for the 1997 murder of her husband at the hands of her lover, is set to receive a lethal injection at 7 p.m. ET.

Pope Francis, who called for a ban on the death penalty during his visit to the United States last week, asked the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles to spare her life, through a letter written by a local archbishop.

"While not wishing to minimize the gravity of the crime for which Ms. Gissendander has been convicted, and while sympathizing with the victims, I nonetheless implore you, in consideration of the reasons that have been expressed to your board, to commute the sentence to one that would better express both justice and mercy," Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano wrote.

I’d want a Communion wafer and a sip of wine.

You don’t have to eat it, you just have to request it.

15 minutes to go.

She hired her boyfriend to kill her husband for the insurance money.
I have no sympathy for her.
None whatsoever.

She even had the chance to plead to a lesser offense.

Interesting bit of Georgia trivia: Gov. Deal doesn’t have the legal authority to stop an execution. Only the Parole Board may do that.

The woman has a salary of one half million dollars for executing cuddly babies. She makes more than the POTUS or congress critter.
These politicians take good care of one another.

“..the county commission had to authorize a sizeable property tax increase, in order to conduct a death penalty trial.”

I have heard the argument about how expensive it is for all of the retrials and stuff related to death penalty verdicts as well. It is actually cheaper to put them away for life!

**** ““...She requested a last meal of...”
-
ME? ... I’d go for:
appetizer:
jalapeno pepper poppers filed w/ cream cheese and some boiled shrimp w/ cocktail sauce

salad:
lettuce wedge with bacon bits, shredded cheddar cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette dressing

entree:
pot roast w/ boiled new potatoes, lima beans, and sliced tomatoes (need mayonnaise), and sweet cornbread

dessert:
home made vanilla ice cream with hershey’s chocolate syrup and crushed pecans” ****

Ya still would be served (1) square fish sandwich, runny fake mac and cheese and a glass of warm orange koolaide

The Catholics won in France and slaughtered Huguenots which is largely why it remained Catholic

They did eventually lose England after the Stuart’s James II but they sure got in their punches over those 200 plus years pleading up to the Glorious Revolution

There is no question the Church reacted to Protestant heresy brutally wherever it popped up
