Oscar Nominee Subjects Are Going to Be a Heavy Dose of Lesbians, Transgenders, Pedophile Priests

Get ready. This is going to be an interesting year at the Oscars.

The movies that are getting into position for Best Picture nominations are not “Driving Miss Daisy” material.

One of the leading candidates is “Spotlight,” Tom McCarthy’s exciting telling of how Boston Globe reporters unmasked 90 pedophile priests. The film has an all star cast including Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Liev Schreiber. They will all be contenders in the Best Supporting Acto race.

“Carol” is a love story about two lesbians in 1952 New York. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are the lovers, and their work is exceptional. Director Todd Haynes, the actresses, and cinematographer Ed Lachman will all be up for awards.

“Grandma” stars Lily Tomlin as a hippie grandmother, pot smoking lesbian who’s trying to help her granddaughter raise enough money for an abortion. Tomlin is absolutely sterling, and leads my list of potential Best Actress nominees.

Then there’s the transgender section: Eddie Redmayne plays a man who becomes a woman in “The Danish Girl.” Redmayne is absolutely spot on as he makes the transition with his loyal– and unusually understanding– wife (Alicia Vikander) by his side. Tom Hooper’s movie is exquisite.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if five of the eight or nine Best Picture nominees include “Spotlight,” “The Danish Girl,” “Carol,” “Grandma,” and “Spotlight.” Whoever hosts the Academy Awards is going to have a lot of fun summarizing these films. Really, only Billy Crystal could pull off a proper parody of “The Danish Girl.”

Other potential Best Picture nominees will be less cutting edge sexually: “Bridge of Spies” from Steven Spielberg, “Steve Jobs” from Danny Boyle, Robert Zemeckis’s “The Walk,” Ridley Scott’s “The Martian,” and Quentin Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight” don’t involve gender issues.

Ever notice how many best picture nominees are box office bombs. I remember last year when American Sniper (how did that ever sneak through?) had a gross that was over twice all the other BP nominees combined. I consider “Academy Award Nominee” to be a negative endorsement of any movie.

> I've reached a point where I almost never go to a movie unless it's PG13 or better. Violence and lewdness have made even R movies unpleasant.

same here. I don't need to see partial nudity, sex scenes or hear GD spouted every few seconds. When are the idiots in Hollywierd going to get this. Can't they see how successful the new Christian movies are and get the hint. People are tired of the overly secular crap.

The only one I even want to see is “The Martian” and I am going to wait on that one until someone reports they did not totally mess up the story.

Where i live it is not absolutely safe to attend a movie.

Too many ferals. Don’t dare ask them to quiet down, lest you be kicked to death.

‘Unbranded’ is an absolute must-see. NOT a Hollywood film. A documentary about four young men who decide to ride mustangs from one border to another -— Arizona/Mexico to Canadian border at Glacier National Park. They made the journey in 2013 and the film has just come out.
They shot 500 hours of film and it is fantastic. The situations these guys got themselves into and out of are hard to believe. 3,000 miles and four months.

The cutting and editing is terrific, very contemporary. I don’t know how the cameraman lived through some of these situations. Funny, terrifying, beautiful.

By the way, they made it.

Agree, read the book and didn’t know about the movie. Good story and I’m also hoping they don’t screw it up.

“People are tired of the overly secular crap.”

The only people that are tired of the crap are those who still remember something different, like ourselves. Hollywood could care less what we want or like. Their aim is to change the morals and values of society with a continual drip, drip, drip in the ears and eyes of impressionable youths and young adults who can be swayed by the graphic, raw nature of the material.

We ourselves are much to blame. If only we had objected and refused to watch those smarmy, sexually charged soap operas when they went beyond decency. If only we had turned off those stupid little sitcoms when they started going beyond the bounds with their cutsey little sexual inuendos. If only we had objected to the seventie’s glorification of adultery and cheating in marriage and the increasing flashes of nudity in movies. If only we had objected more strenuously when tv began to depict disobedient, snarky children who treated their parents like embeciles as “cool”. If only we had objected when men began to be depicted as only useful idiots in the family circle.

We opened Pandora’s box a long time ago. There’s no such thing as taking a naughty peek and closing the lid again. We’re just now realizing that life does indeed imitate art. Just as we older folks respected and looked up to our heroes who always won out over the bad guys; our children and grandchildren will look up to theirs. Only theirs will be the likes of Kaitlyn Jenner and folks like us will be the bad guys.

I immediately shut down anything that celebrates that kind of perversion, along with the stupid sex scenes that put the whole plot on hold for five minutes for no apparent reason. But all the while, I know I’m not the target nor the objective and it makes me sad to think what kind of world my children and grandchildren are going to have to navigate if Christ tarries His Coming.

The value of any group or organization to society is inversely proportional to the number of awards it gives itself.
