Trump Proposes Replacing Obamacare with Government-Funded Universal Healthcare

YoutTube Video: Donald Trump Endorses Universal Health Care - "The Government's Gonna Pay For It."

On Sunday’s episode of 60 Minutes on CBS, Donald Trump said that “Obamacare is a disaster” and that he plans to repeal it and replace it with a government-funded universal healthcare plan.

During the lengthy interview, CBS correspondent Scott Pelley asked billionaire real estate mogul and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump his position on healthcare reform.

Obamacare’s going to be repealed and replaced. Obamacare is a disaster if you look at what’s going on with premiums where they’re up 40, 50, 55 percent,” replied Trump.

Pelley then pressed him to offer his own specific plan for fixing the U.S. healthcare system.

Trump began explaining, “There’s many different ways, by the way. Everybody’s got to be covered. This is an un-Republican thing for me to say because a lot of times they say, ‘No, no, the lower 25 percent that can’t afford private.’ But…

Pelley then interrupted, noting that Trump was describing a universal healthcare plan.

Trump continued, “I am going to take care of everybody. I don’t care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody’s going to be taken care of much better than they’re taken care of now.

The real estate billionaire then explained that he “would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care” of uninsured Americans.

When Pelley asked him to clarify who would pay for the plan, Trump replied, “The government’s gonna pay for it. But we’re going to save so much money on the other side. But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.

Still, his reflex is a private system. Everyone will be covered, but a private system.

But, if "everyone will be covered", won't it be mandatory?

It’s over now. Trump is toast /sarc

Let’s give him a chance to explain his plan. I know he mentioned about making health care plans competitive. What a socialist idea than is.

Please show me how he's going to accomplish this. Taxes would have to be quadrupled for the middle class.

‘fraid so. Trump has been misrepresented minute by minute. This is simply one more example. He goes after the media because the media is, in fact, his enemy.

It isn't private if he says the government is going to pay for it - that's the crony capitalist system we have now with Obamacare.

How many people want to wait in line in for “free” health care?

Trump has said, he would like to do away with the VA.

Some Freepers haven’t been listening.

I’m sure the Trumpettes will find a way to rationalise this away as well.

I dunno - just from what he says above (which I’m assuming can be easily checked by viewing the interview, so I doubt they’d just invent stuff out of whole cloth), it looks an awfully lot like he is proposing government “managed competition,” which isn’t any better than ObamaCare.

I didn’t hear it, but sounds like he’s talking about a private system but where government guarantees to pay for the poor (”Deals with hospitals”). I would say Jury’s out.

If he goes Euro style Government-run / Universal rather than mostly-private-government-subsidized-so-everyone-gets-treated, which is what we had though not formalized, then I will start to have a big problem with his candidacy. When I say ‘mostly private’ I am not referring to the sham of privacy Obama has instituted.

He’s very clear about competition and choice ... and there are market based solutions available. Think the Jury’s out, even though I’m not a fan of the sound of it.

Louis Foxwell :" Trump has been misrepresented minute by minute.

All the more reason for a Conservative video media voice somewhere.
Most people don't know what Conservatism really is, and what it values

Don’t the taxpayers pay the freight anyway? Medicare, medicaid, TriCare, VA Hosp, Emergency Room non-payment (illegals), etc..

0bamacare is about ready to self-destruct, and morph into a single payer system anyway. And that will probably happen before Jan, 2017.

I’m not a fan of single payer either, but let’s hear him out and if this is really where he wants to take us.

This surely isn’t a deal breaker. Getting control of our borders and getting rid of illegals are top priority, and trump (no pun intended) everything else. Why? Because without that we lose our culture for good, and with it anything we now cherish guaranteed by our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Let’s keep our eye on the ball.

How many people want to wait in line in for “free” health care?

I'm guessing most would, at least for the first year or so.

Trump has said, he would like to do away with the VA.

The VA is not the sum total of American health care.

Some Freepers haven’t been listening

And some are listening all too well.
