Putin: "We can no longer tolerate the current state of affairs in the world"

EW YORK - Russian President Vladimir Putin took a defiant tone in his highly-anticipated United Nations address on Monday, ahead of a planned meeting with President Barack Obama.

Putin spent much of the speech delivering the Russian perspective on world affairs, which he said is nothing more than "honest and frank." Putin dismissed many Western officials' expressed fears about Russian expansionism, saying the Kremlin has been accused too often of "growing ambitions."

"It's not about Russia's ambitions but recognition of the fact that we can no longer tolerate the current state of affairs in the world," Putin said.

The Russian president also mocked Western ideals and how they were applied to the Arab Spring, singling out Libya as an example of how things can go wrong. Instead of the promise of democratic reform, "we got violence, poverty and social disaster," Putin said.

Putin said the "export of revolutions" continue to fail.

Why would it cost Putin anything? All he is saying is DON’T export the revolutions in this fantasy idea that the nations will become Jeffersonian democracies. Not starting something is cheaper than dirt.

Obama and Putin have been acting in unison for years, despite the pretend bluster most recently. Remember that overheard conversation with Medvedev a few years back?

Putin does believe the picture he wants the world to see...and therein is the difference between Obama and Putin....Obama has ‘no foundation’ other then what might seem the way to go at the moment...he has no loyalty but to himself....he blieves in nothing but himself.

“Putin said the “export of revolutions” continue to fail.

The irony in that statement is humongous...................... “

I’m surprised no one else caught that. Must be a young crowd online right now.

ISIS/L has a foothold in Libya, but has not consolidated control there, yet.

That parts that ISIL does not control in Libya are just as Islamic just not into allegiance with ISIL. Putin is not just saying it's ISIL - he is saying all these rebels are bad. The best option is to not over throw the old regimes.

I am sure Putin left out Egypt as an Obama example because he does not want to open old wounds and Egypt has been warming up to Russia after the USA backed the Islamic Brotherhood's election.

I imagine Barry THOUGHT he/they were acting in concert. I don’t think Vlad was ever under any delusions as to held the actual control there. Barry and Val just THOUGHT it was them.

What are you talking about? Putin has 10,000 troops in Syria and is building installations. That takes a lot of money and if I told you Italy were doing this, you’d ask how the Italians could afford the adventure.

“Yeh Putey is pretty deep into his egg money in the Ukraine misadventure.”

Not sure where people get that from.

The Russians are largely supplying the rebels in Ukraine from existing inventory that has been sitting in bunkers and warehouses for 30-50 years. The cost to them is minimal, in the big picture.

The same for Syria.

It’s easy to forget that the are sitting on top of the biggest (and aging) arsenal the planet has ever known, or could even comprehend.

Just the stuff they left behind in Ukraine, which became the world’s largest arms bazaar, has fueled every insurgency and war for the last two decades.

It’s only been within the last couple of weeks that “Modern” Russian equipment has shown up in Syria.

Yup. For some reason, Many here want America to be world cop while bitching how broke we are.

Some make money off of it and some have their internal egos tied to it - probably both.

“Putin has 10,000 troops in Syria and is building installations”

Uhhh...
NO

There are about 200 added Russian Troops in Syria now, in addition to the Russian Navy/Marines already stationed there.

They aren’t “Building new installations”, they are paving ramps and adding to already existing Syrian installations.

They aren’t us, and don’t require endless Environmental Impact Statements and JAG approvals to do something. When the General says “Bulldoze that and pave it”, a guy just jumps on a dozer and starts to work.

Putin’s just not comfortable with a strong black man in the White House.

On the upside he does seem to enjoy mocking a weak black candy-ass.

If real leadership existed in this country, we’d coordinate anti-ISIS efforts with the Russians. In concert with Putin’s guys in Syria, we could assemble a force in Iraq to push and trap the ISIS knuckledraggers into a pocket at the Syrian-Iraqi border, then bomb it to dust.

Didn't Trump say on 60 Minutes that we should let Russia defeat ISIS in Syria and we'd defeat them in Iraq? Could be a plan, but it still leaves the question of what would replace ISIS in Iraq.

Wonder if there will be a Trump/Putin meeting as was mentioned in some reports?

Yep -

And -

Obama isn’t going to clean ISIS out of Syria. Putin cleaning out ISIS and allies, in Syria is just fine.
