Trump: GOP rivals 'want to start WWIII over Syria,' should let Russia fight Islamic State

GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump shared more of his views on foreign policy Friday, telling an audience in Oklahoma his 2016 rivals want to “start World War III over Syria” and suggesting the U.S. let Russia take up the fight against the Islamic State in the region.

“They want to start World War III over Syria. Give me a break,” Mr. Trump said at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City, The Hill reported.

“You know Russia wants to get ISIS right,” Mr. Trump said, using the acronym for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. “We want to get ISIS. Russia’s in Syria. Maybe we should let them do it? Let them do it. What the hell are we, crazy?”

Mr. Trump’s remarks come as Russia is increasing its military forces in Syria, a move which has alarmed U.S. military and administration officials.

A controversial position, to say the least.

OK Trump, what happens to the US and the Free World when Russia trumps you and begins funding ISIS?

What do you propose? Sending our troops into another war? We don’t have the resources or the troops to do that. Your remark is pretty naive.

We want to get ISIS. Russia’s in Syria. Maybe we should let them do it? Let them do it.

Can't argue with that. And if the end result is no more ISIS, and increased Russian influence in Syria...I could live with that. And the local Christian communities could probably live with that as well.

Pertaining to Iraq, this part is likely accurate: ““And right now as you are standing here, Iraq is negotiating with Iran. They’re going to merge and Iran is going to get the oil… and the one that gets the rest of it is going to be ISIS.”

I am not voting for Trump but I do think he makes more sense on this issue than others do. I am open to correction on this. My understanding of all the particulars is limited. I admit that. This is a very complicated issue. But someone needs to wipe ISIS off the map.

Russia’s not going to turn around and fund ISIS. They’ve got their own radical Islam problem. Besides that, Syria has always been an ally of Russia. If Russia doesn’t clean up the mess US policy created, who will?

Russia won’t fund ISIS. Russia supports Assad and ISIS is his enemy (ISIS is everyone’s enemy except a few other terrorist groups).

I have long thought that the naïve were those who wanted to support unknown terrorist groups against Assad. Americans stopped Obama from going into Syria against Assad....the famous red line in the sand. I was one of those who disagreed with supporting the unknown to get rid of the known.

The result: Christians in Syria, formerly protected to some degree, are now refugees. They are the lucky ones. The others are dead, their women kidnapped, and their civilization destroyed.

IIRC, they were an orthodox people. Putin could even claim to be entering to protect the orthodox.

Maybe not.

Nobody in Syria like the US. Helping Assad does not really further US interest other than he is better than ISIL.

Besides why should Russia better more successful in Syria than they were in Afghanistan?

Russia lost 100,000 men after they invaded Afghanistan and all we did was supply the Muhajadeen. Let them fight ISIS, don't know what will happen, but the US is doing nothing now, and with this buffoon in office, that will be the plan for a long time.

George Washington -1796

“Against the insidious wiles of foreign influences (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens), the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. But that jealousy, to be useful, must be impartial; else it becomes the instrument of the very influence to be avoided, instead of a defence against it. Excessive partiality for one foreign nation, and excessive dislike of another, cause those whom they actuate to see danger only on one side, and serve to veil and even second the arts of influence on the other. Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite, are liable to become suspected and odious; while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests.”

= = =
The libs like to call everything complicated, and they are the only ones smart to explain it and solve it (always at our cost and peril).

I am ok with Russia wiping ISIS off the map. That is pretty simple.

And also not what the complicated libs can accept. Which maybe is a good clue.

Love and Peace, SB

We had idiot McCain give arms to Isis . The entire Benghazi Ambassador fiasco was a Syrian arms deal that went bad. Its rival Tribes who have fought each other for hundreds of years.

Does anyone see the Saudis or Kuwaitis fighting Isis in Iraqi or in Afghanistan ! No.

About the only problem with that theory is that Russia is scraping the barrel since they are bogged down in Ukraine for resources to throw into Syria.

They’ll likely put in just enough for ISIS to turn into hostages for nasty executions.
