Trump: GOP rivals want to 'start World War III over Syria'

Donald Trump on Friday accused his GOP rivals of seeking to “start World War III over Syria” and suggested the U.S. let Russia take up the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)

"They want to start World War III over Syria. Give me a break," Trump said at the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.

"You know Russia wants to get ISIS right. We want to get ISIS. Russia’s in Syria. Maybe we should let them do it?," he continued. "Let them do it. What the hell are we crazy?"

Trump's statements come as Russia builds up its forces in Syria to help embattled leader Bashar Assad take on ISIS. The U.S. is also leading a coalition against the terror group, but also opposes Assad's regime and has urged him to relinquish power.

President Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Monday at the UN General Assembly, with Syria a likely topic of discussion.

Foreign policy has appeared to be a stumbling block for GOP front-runner Trump at times.

In a radio interview with Hugh Hewitt earlier this month, Trump appeared to mix-up the names of top terrorists and confused the Kurds with the Iranian "Quds" force – a special military unit.

Trump initially slammed Hewitt for asking "gotcha" questions, but during the second GOP debate suggested he had just been confused by Hewitt's pronunciation of foreign names.

Trump has touted his foreign policy, noting that he was opposed to the Iraq war, pledging to do more for America's veterans and blasting President Obama's nuclear deal with Iran. He has said he would pick top experts for his administration and rely on their advice.

On Friday, he said that the U.S. had only empowered Iran by invading Iraq.

"I said don’t go into Iraq. I’m the most militant person here, the most militaristic person you’ll ever meet. I believe in the military strongly but I didn’t want to see us invade Iraq," he said.

"We spend $2 trillion dollars, thousands of lives, wounded warriors all over the place that I love by the way… we got nothing. We can’t even go over there."

Trump also said Iraq and Iran were growing closer.

"And right now as you are standing here, Iraq is negotiating with Iran . They’re going to merge and Iran is going to get the oil… and the one that gets the rest of it is going to be ISIS."

Agreed regarding O gutting the military.

Truthfully, I am less worried about nuclear than I am about cyber. That seems to gearing up and could bring us to our knees. I am seriously worried about that. Why lay a rich country to waste when you can immobilize it and take over with all assets in tact.

Going in was costly. Pulling out, costlier. The art of the deal. The art of war.

“Thus we may know that there are five essentials for victory:

1 He will win who knows when to fight and when not to fight.
2 He will win who knows how to handle both superior and inferior forces.
3 He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks.
4 He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.
5 He will win who has military capacity and is not interfered with by the sovereign.”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

I try to learn from the past, but I plan for the future by focusing exclusively on the present.
1 The fact is...if you're right, you've got to take a stand or people will walk all over you.
2 Sometimes your best investments are the ones you don't make.
3 I aim very high, and then I just keep pushing and pushing til I get what I'm after.
4 Its not how many hours you put in, it's what you get done while you're working.
5 If you're going to make a deal of any significance, you have to go to the top [of the company].
6 Much more often than you'd think, sheer persistance is the difference between success and failure.
7 The worst of times often create the best opportunities to make a deal.
8 Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war. ~ The Art of the Deal. Donald Trump

I agree with trump on this. some times we are so caught up in trying to counter what ever Russia does we fail to do the right thing...the fact that I think we should be encouraging of Russia on this does not mean we should not be weary of it. the fact is Obamas foreign policy fucked up and while the Russians moving in is not desirable it is better then the alternatives

Should we get involved in Syria if Russia is already taking up the fight against ISIS?

No!

If you don’t support either Assad or ISIS, then who the hell is left to support in Syria?

Trump is right, our policy MAKES NO SENSE - we are supporting GHOSTS over there - people that will turn Syria into a striving, stable, democracy - except that THEY DON’T EXIST, never have, and never will (at least for generations). The Russians at least make sense in siding with Assad.

Nation building is a failure. We can not use Germany or Japan after WWII as examples on helping nations become whole after losing a war. Both nations already had a foundation in governing themselves.

The middle east is nothing but tribes, with the strongest one ruling over the weaker ones. It is their tradition and any attempt to impose western style democracy on them will fail.

The best we can do is let them sort it out, and then punish any that exports their terror outside their borders. Other than that, leave them to their 13th century world.

“we don’t have the military to fight - obama has gutted it to pre-WW1 levels.” ...........

Exactly why we need someone like Trump who will build our military back to be the strongest, best equipped military, which includes all our forces, in the world. Trump is a “builder” and build it he would.

Mr Trump, we are already in World War III. Have been since the early 190’s when Islam declared war on America and Western civilization. They have been waging that war across the globe relentlessly ever since. Only problem is only they consider it a war. Most nations have chosen to stick their heads up their own butts and not see it. Other like the U.S. have leaders who refuse to accept it as a war and provide aid and assistance to the enemy.

It’s time for Europe to face the music. Their neighbors next door will certainly be coming to knock on their doors as invading hordes and armies first.

So far they have simply sat back watching the “game” of America VS everyone else. It’s their immediate problem...not ours.

Trump is absolutely right, we need to gird our military up to maximum strength because we are definitely going to need it in the near future.

This thing is going to turn very sour folks and it won’t be very long before it happens.

...and if we did, we should just march in and take it. What could they do about it?

The US and Russia aren’t the only nations with an interest in the Middle East. China imports a significant amount of oil from the region and has just deployed its aircraft carrier to the Syrian port of Tartus to back its Russian ally.

China’s first carrier is a symbol of its plan to build a navy capable of projecting military power on a global basis. China is making a strong statement by putting this military asset in the middle of a hot war zone. Does anyone in Washington understand the symbolism? Likely the rest of the world does.

Right.

Songbird McCain has been mighty quiet ever since the truth came out about his ‘heroism’.

But the thought of war in Syria has him salivating...

Other than oil, how did any of the middle east ever play into our interests? If you get the feds out of the way I think we could live without Saudi oil soon enough. Let the Russians have that brier patch. I feel sorry for the Israelis. They are in a bad situation that eventually will end badly for them and 50+ million Arabs.

US interest in the Middle East is pretty much a result of the Cold War and countering communism.

Even the power of America’s ‘Jewish Lobby’ has been mostly smoke and mirrors and actually a result of the Cold War.

Syria is the soft underbelly of Russia. It is termed Stalingrad 2.0 here: http://fortruss.blogspot.com/2015/09/why-syria-is-russias-stalingrad.html

US funded and equipped the islamic surge to take Syria by way of the Bengazi weapons transfer fiasco that is hidden in plain sight. The US and NATO and New World Aliance is using Islam as the proxy taken down for Moscow and everyone knows it.

The left has perfected the method of controlling election outcomes through fraud votes, fraud counting, bussing professional voters around and using every statistical means to secure victory. On the other hand the GOP is worried about Jeb and Trump and who will get the GOP nomination for the next fake election.

If you ever wondered what it feels like to live in a banana republic, then look no more.
