A Protestant Response To Pope Francis' Address
Virtue Online ^ | September 24, 2015 | Phillip Melancthon

Posted on 09/26/2015 8:01:14 AM PDT by lqcincinnatus

1] The Roman Pontiff claims for himself [in the first place] that by divine right he is [supreme] above all bishops and pastors [in all Christendom].

2] Secondly, he adds also that by divine right he has both swords, i.e., the authority also of bestowing kingdoms [enthroning and deposing kings, regulating secular dominions etc.].

3] And thirdly, he says that to believe this is necessary for salvation. And for these reasons the Roman bishop calls himself [and boasts that he is] the vicar of Christ on earth.

4] These three articles we hold to be false, godless, tyrannical, and [quite] pernicious to the Church.

5] Now, in order that our proof [reason and opinion] may be [better] understood, we shall first define what they call being above all [what it means that he boasts of being supreme] by divine right. For they mean that he is universal [that the Pope is the general bishop over the entire Christian Church], or, as they say, ecumenical bishop, i.e., from whom all bishops and pastors throughout the entire world ought to seek ordination and [confirmation, who [alone] is to have the right of electing, ordaining, confirming, deposing all bishops [and pastors].

Well we could say we complain about how Christ is treated, or about how the heart of God was hurt, and what’s it to ya?

The Pope does not care about the unborn IMO..If he did he would tell US Catholics that if they vote for abortion homosexual marriage and the removal of God/Christ from the classroom/public square they will have no chance at ever seeing the Kingdom of God

I believe if the Pope said this, sure they would lose money and some churches would close, but the rest would stop voting Democrat.

There would be enough left to make the difference in making abortion and homosexual marriage illegal

Homosexual marriage, or supporting it or voting for it in any way shape or form is to harm a child...What does the Bible say about harming one of my little ones...better off to have a millstone around your neck and drowned in the depths of the sea

The pope does not care, if he did he would know that climate change talk was only going to tell democrats they are on the right track, you are as much as saying it is more important than children being aborted or children being taught that homosexuality is a option for them

Who would think that the Vicar of Christ could spend four days in the U S giving multiple public addresses and not mention the word “Christ” except in a mass. I suppose it would be “divisive” to utter that word in the public sphere.

It isn’t true that this would doom someone beyond a hope any more than their idea of mortal sin is well grasped, but does it hurt God’s heart? Beyond a shadow of a doubt it does.

Appealing to selfish motives, like an epicurean pie in some future sky, is not going to get very far. Appealing to people to become aware once more of the love of God and what it does both now and in eternity (and then, following from that, what a horrible thing is embraced when it is rejected) will, I humbly submit, go further.

Christ’s comment about the little ones was actually pointed at those who throw offenses at the saving faith of believers (both children and adults). I’ve watched that actually play out.

Granted it takes some special kind of hard heart to not care about the slaughter of the vulnerable in abortions. But that’s going down a somewhat different road. And the solution in an eternal scale is to address the hard heart problem.

That was speaking of the real and actual church and it's episcopacy, not the Latin Church alone with it's inherent corruptions of singular papacy (one bishop over all other bishops, etc.) among other things, including churches in more place than Rome alone having allowed influences from paganism and superstitions to become mixed & syncretized with the gospel.

Same to you, X10. You've probably posted that same comment a thousand times on this forum...so however may times, right back at where that came from...

How many times does it need to be explained?

There was no single 'pope' over the entire Church from the beginning.

It was not founded and designed to be that way.

When one can make it through all the blathering blarney to the contrary well enough that even Rome's own promoters are forced to admit to the truth of there having been no singular bishop over all others, then what comes out as the excuse making for that but 'acorn theory', with apologists for Rome trying to say it was always there "in essence" etc., in effort to justify past developments, inventions & corruptions.

There was rather loose & informal episcopacy in the beginning centuries of the Church, but there was not the bishopric of Rome named or created as bishop of bishops over all others. Rome Alone attributed that to their own bishopric. And it took many centuries for that to unfold.

Yet now, it is almost impossible to talk about how the church was in its more original inception, at least to Romanists.

Its as if they can't get it through their heads that significant portions of what they've been taught. was long ago corrupted, the truth twisted into what is not true, with that blended in with things which are true enough.

Yet these same Romanist insist everyone else is wrong and must agree with them, or not be part of the Church.

It's like squatters long ago took up residence within the Church, and turned it aside from its original charter, substituting doctrines of men in place of the gospel of Christ, and are now continuing to be confused about the actual order of Christianity itself, having become prisoner of their own inventions.

So drop that "if they refuse to listen to the Church" truncated, out of context citing of Matthew 18:17 noise, when that is addressed to Christians, on this forum, until the mistake of believing that the Roman Catholic Church was the one which was being spoken about, even to the exclusion of any and all others, at any point which they may disagree with 'Rome'.

The passage is about how to deal with a brother who is sinning against oneself.

In that view, being as the RCC has long sinned corporately against others in seeking to dominate all, even to the ends of the earth, blending kingdoms of the earth with the kingdom of God (even to having been tax assigners & collectors both, in past history!) then for those who turn aside and away from Rome as they would a heathen or tax collector, cannot have that shunning of the claims which 'Rome' makes exclusive of itself lodged against themselves as complaint, for the shunning is not without justification.

So hit the road, jack.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is getting sick of hearing that passage being misapplied, as has been your own long habit of doing.

I didn’t complain when he posted stuff to me; quite personal if I may say so.

But; since he’s shown that it only works one way; I’ll leave the poor dear to himself.

He wait a minute fellow, you are putting words in my mouth...I never said anybody was lost! While there is breath in us we can be saved no matter what.

We are talking about telling people the truth, Christians can not vote for homosexuality, abortion and the removal of God/Christ from the classroom/public square, not only would they not, they could not

Anybody that believes any of those things are ok has not been born again/saved, filled with the Holy Spirit of God

Why cant the Pope speak truth, there is a heaven and a hell, there is no purgatory, once are heart stops we have no second chances

Billy Graham or Franklin would be telling people the truth, and with this audience thousands would be saved, but we are not seeing any al;tar calls and nobody is being told how to be saved

The singing is mostly pseudo-Christian

Sister Sledge, Aretha Franklin??? give me a break

Elsie is not a Mormon.

As for the fruitcake part, I doubt he's ever been to Corsicana, or if so, doesn't hail from there.

Speaking of fruitcakes though, I'd like to know where I could get better, moister fruitcake for less $$$.

The last time I tried one, the ye olde DeLuxe® wasn't as good as I recall it being, some forty years or more ago...

LAST THING

If supporting abortion (killing children) is ok

and if teaching children homosexuality is a option for them

and if voting for the removal of God/Christ from the classroom /public square is ok

Then that means that anything and everything goes, it would also mean that repentance was not necessary

You wont find a truly Christian Bible Scholar that would agree with you

Voting for and supporting the Removal of Christ from society/classroom/public square, voting to give someone the right to kill their child, and voting for homosexual marriage etc is NOT a sin of passion

It`s not like oh Lord I am sorry I did it again please forgive me I will try harder, these are wilful choices against God, pre meditated, a choice that says you are for killing Gods children, for teaching them that homosexuality is a option for them, the freakin removal of God/Christ from the classroom/public square, the removal of Christian crosses from veterans cemeteries.

Yes anybody can be saved as long as they still have a beating heart, but to suiggest a Christian pastor would support these things by being silent as the Pope is

Yes he is being silent by lip service for the unborn, with condemnation of GOP over immigration etc

He is saying there is no difference

Um... God said (to the Israelites) that all debts were to be erased every SEVEN (7) years.

Oooo, "replacement theology." No, it doesn't work that way.

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. The Greek word for "iniquity" anomian, the root for which is "nomos." So as opposed to "iniquity" the translation is more properly LAWLESSNESS.

Just what Law do you think Jesus might have been talking about? Why, the Law of the Father. That would be the Torah. Follow Him, and you choose to follow the Law of Moses, your works according to which you will be judged. Don't think works matter?

Matthew 16:27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

Yes, we are saved by grace, but we are judged by works, according to the Mosaic Law.

Not micro aggression. I am married to someone from Mexico (who pays tens of thousands in taxes).
It is quite common to have male members trying to molest the kids an regarding little girls it is always the girl’s fault.
Many marry in Mexico by kidnapping and rapeing the future Mrs. Or they just decide to send the girl back in shame (always th girls fault), no longer able to be marriage material.

Lots is similarity to Isis IMO, I was not joking.

Few years ago she went to visit family in Morelia and all five entrances were layered in headless bodies.
Again, just like Isis. So build a huge Vatican type of wall.

Christ shed His blood for us all. Doesn’t mean anything to those that can be saves until they accept Christ.

Blood shed, no acceptance of Christ or Judahism then no salvation.

Elsie is not a Mormon.

She could of fooled me, when she showed up out of nowhere and started SPAMming me with all sorts of Mormon literature. And then when I told her to stop her nonsense, she just continued to stalk me.

As for the fruitcake part...

I was referring to the first definition, but maybe you know better than me.

She could of fooled me Not a female, either.

If you's realized or known where he was coming from, then it wouldn't have seemed so 'off', or 'fruitcake' but would have made sense, and not been taken as stalking, either.

What he was doing was bringing out comparison of one mindset with another.

I was referring to the first definition, but maybe you know better than me.

I'm not here to be insulted.

It is clear that you simply did not understand Elsie. And that's no insult, but is factual (or at least was previously, I would hope that be now changed).
