Cruz electrifies Values Voters with first day promises

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) electrified conservatives at the Values Voters Summit in Washington on Friday as he laid out plans for his first day in the White House.

Cruz vowed to rescind all of President Obama’s “illegal and unconstitutional executive actions," said he would order the Department of Justice to prosecute Planned Parenthood, instruct the DOJ and Internal Revenue Service to end religious persecution of citizens, “rip to shreds” the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran and move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

Upon each declaration, Cruz received huge applause and a standing ovation.

“That’s just day one,” Cruz said. “There are 365 days in the year, four years in a presidential term, four years in a second term. By the end of eight years, this ballroom is going to be a whole lot bigger. By the end of eight years, there will be a whole lot of reporters and journalists who have checked themselves into therapy.”

Cruz took a broad message to the estimated 2,500 social conservatives who gathered at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington for the summit. He’s a favorite at the gathering, having won the last two straw polls.

The Texas Republican was right at home pacing the stage with the fire and cadence of a preacher. He loosened up the crowd with a series of barbed jokes, primarily aimed at President Obama, whom he called a communist, and Hillary Clinton, whom he said could face jail time.

But Cruz also took aim at Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), who just moments before had announced he would resign his speakership.

“You want to know how much either of you terrify Washington?,” he asked. “Yesterday, John Boehner was Speaker of the House. Y'all come to town and somehow that changes. My only request is: Can you come more often?”

Cruz has perhaps the strongest socially conservative bona fides in the field, and he flaunted that advantage by returning frequently to Biblical passages and focusing heavily on religious liberty.

Cruz recounted meeting with Kim Davis, the Kentucky clerk who was briefly jailed for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples following a Supreme Court's ruling that legalized the practice.

“I said, 'You are being lifted up in prayer by millions of believers across America and across the world,' ” Cruz said. “You may have thought you were alone in that jail cell — you didn’t know how crowded it was.”

Cruz looked beyond his first day in office as well, vowing in subsequent months to “repeal every word of ObamaCare,” rebuild the military, crack down on sanctuary cities and stop the “indefensible practice of releasing criminal illegal aliens,” pass a flat tax and abolish the IRS.

“When conservatives unite, we win,” Cruz declared at the end of his speech to another standing ovation. “We must rise up and say that we the people will defend this last best hope for mankind, this shining city on a hill that is the United States of America.”

Ted Cruz brought down Boehner-- and he's the only candidate that will dismantle and rebuild the GOP.

Trump stands for many good issues- but Trump is not ideological- he's more a Chinese menu... some big gov't, some small gov't, some Dem, some GOP. As President, he may get his way with the current GOP-- but he won't change it.

The only issue in this campaign is turning the GOP into a true small government, constitutional party- without which nothing else matters.

Yeah, Baby!

Cruz is doing the right thing. Trump has broken the wall and brought the truth and national feelings to the front. In turn, this has force the communist to up their game and field Bernie Sanders and shove the beast to the corner. We’re at the critical juncture and we should back Cruz (intelligence and principle) over the conservative Ross Perot.

Ted Cruz is this nation’s last hope. Trump serves a purpose in destroying the GOP-e, calling out pussies for being pussies, and giving a voice to conservative viewpoints ignored by the Lamestream Media, but he ultimately does not have a proven commitment to conservatism. Cruz is the man who will make America great again, and Cruz is the man who will take credit in making liberals either into conservatives or too terrified to reveal their true intentions.

Cruz is great but no track record in this game from a get it done perspective...

I understand your zeal, my family in Illinois were GOP from the beginning and I never remember any relatives with that leaning either.

Let us be pragmatic and strategic at the same time... Trump opens doors and Cruz works on the cleanup and realignment of the Government. Trump knows all about building teams and not micromanaging them. I from a purely professional standpoint see his type is needed now after Lefty Limpwrist. NOT saying Ted is not a man, but Biggy D can pick up his personal phone and call the sme folks Ted is trying to reach, but cannot....

They are on the phone with a doer, not a dreamer and Ted with some time in grade will do 2 terms following Trumps. The other way it is 2 Ted and then...

GOPe rising...

2 Trump and 2 Ted Kills the Dem lineup and keeps the culture normalizing. A key role for the VP is helping State governments to get their crap together so they can act independent of the Mothership as they have become used to.

There is a LOT to do as we all know, this is the time to turn back the Progressives and drive them to the dustbins of History

Sic Semper Tyrannus!

HOT DAMN!

Who doesn’t stand with Cruz?

Jeepers. You gotta have some pretty rarified criteria not to back this guy. He’s the real thing.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) electrified conservatives at the Values Voters Summit in Washington on Friday. . . . Upon each declaration, Cruz received huge applause and a standing ovation. . . . Cruz has perhaps the strongest socially conservative bona fides in the field. . . .

There is no question that Cruz was the favorite of that crowd today. He absolutely brought down the house.

Cruz vowed to rescind all of President Obama’s “illegal and unconstitutional executive actions,”

...

That’s what Reagan did to Carter’s Executive Orders. Compare that to W, who made Clinton his brother, refused to issue vetoes, and started growing the government like a Democrat.

Cruz didn’t bring down Boehner. I think that Meadows fellow and his cohorts had a lot to do with it. I also think that Boehner might go into rehab after next month. Don’t credit Cruz with doing things that he hasn’t done - like he is some kind of hero or something. He isn’t dismantling the GOP - they rebuff him at every turn. That’s speaks well of him, by the way, but i think you are quite the dreamer.

I’ll get to your erroneous assertions in a later post, but I must first respectfully inquire-— why do you feel the need to engage in gratuitous, ad hominem comments? Please tell me, I’m curious.

But, but, but....his wife works for Goldman Sachs!! Which makes him an enemy of humanity and probably a closet Marxist.

And he supported more visas for tech workers!

He’s clearly a RINO.

The only TRUE conservative is this guy who lives on the outskirts of Wichita, has never held public office, tasted liquor, missed a week of church, set foot on an Ivy League campus or dated anyone who has done any of those things.

I want to say his name is Fred something.

Hank

I’m curious as to why you don’t know the meaning of ad hominem., It means name calling - I don’t think saying someone is a dreamer is negative, and it isn’t.

I sent the link of the video to everyone in my church family.
I received back some replies from people who were surprised at Cruz and his passion...because, all they have seen of him so far has been from the debates where as we know, he basically has played it low key.
