Al Jazeera Expected to Cut Hundreds of Jobs

Al Jazeera will cut hundreds of jobs–perhaps up to 1,000 worldwide–in a reported effort to trim budgets at the Qatari-owned news network.

According to The Guardian, the network’s U.S.-based Al Jazeera America will be spared from the cuts.

The newspaper reports falling oil prices and a possible “radical change” in investment strategy may force the job cuts–and could signal a larger shift away from massive investment in news by the Qatari government.

So why is that?

I am guessing that the propaganda value in the US must be important to the Qatari government.

I can’t imagine why. I have never turned the channel on. I did turn it on once when AlGore owned out of curiosity. Never saw that there was anything worth watching of course.
