Now We Know What Putin Is Up To In Syria
The Fiscal Times ^ | 9/23 | Martin Matishak

U.S. officials have begun to reveal the kinds of military equipment Russia has been moving into Syria, leaving little doubt that they are establishing an air base in the war-ravaged country.

Moscow’s movements have been closely watched by the international community over the last few weeks, as observers debate whether the rapid buildup of weapons, troops and supplies near the Syrian coastal city of Latakia is presumably meant to aid diplomacy that will end the years-long civil war or to prop up the regime of embattled President Bahar al-Assad.

Asked if the White House has gleaned Russia’s intent with the rapid military expansion, press secretary Josh Earnest pleaded ignorance.

Earnest stressed that the Obama administration has “been engaged in conversations with the Russians to get a better sense about what their intentions and goals are. And we've made clear both in public and in private that doubling down on supporting Assad is a losing bet.”

Russian military aircraft based in Syria within striking distance of NATO “ally” Turkey....hmmmmmm.

Well the Turks have long been a thorn in the side of the Soviets and are no friends of Iran really...so...there may be more than meets the eye here.

Link that with the invasion of head choppers into the heart of NATO; Germany ect, and we could have a little more than merely protecting Assad and a deep water port.

HOW ABOUT A NICE GAME OF CHESS?

Putin is supporting his buddy Assad.

The Russians like armored warfare.

They want to blitzkrieg out of that base and roll-up all of Assad’s enemies in Syria.

It will be interesting to see Russian armor against the anti-tank weapons that Assad’s enemies have.

Putin staked his claim in Syria when they docked that Russian submarine with nuclear missiles in Syria. That was a message to the West to stay out of what’s coming.

Translation ”our customers will have increased revenue to spend on Russian weapons”

It's more like: "We (the Russians) are about to gain significantly more power and influence in the highly strategic, oil-rich Middle East, while at the same time going about our expansionist agenda in eastern Europe, and preparing with the ChiComs for war with the West".

Russia will get all it wants and will become a major power in the Middle East all a result of the weakness and power vacuum left by the feckless Obama administration.

What makes you think this was not the intent of the 0bama regime all-along?

obama’s ineptness, anti-Americanism, stupidity, lack like no other person in history... has allowed the world to be turned inside out.

If The Won was "inept", he would "get it right" occasionally, if only by accident.

He NEVER gets it right.

Therefore, it's not ineptness; it's malignant evil.

"Russia will built a significant Middle East forward operating base, inclusive of a warm port for the first time in history. Assad is in deep trouble and will basically promise Russia whatever they want to assist in propping him up.

Russia will get all it wants and will become a major power in the Middle East all a result of the weakness and power vacuum left by the feckless Obama administration.

Russia is walking all over Obama and will develop a significant military presence, with significant hard assets, in the Middle East.

In my opinion, this is going to change many equations and perhaps the balance of power for many decades to come."

Exactly! And well stated. Problem getting this across to some of us is that we have a group of pro-Russia, pro-Putin, trolls on the site throwing out BS to confuse and mislead people. Why they are allowed to remain here doing this I cannot begin to understand.

The Kremlin’s Troll Army: Moscow is financing legions of pro-Russia Internet commenters:

A June article by Max Seddon of BuzzFeed reported the Kremlin was spending millions of dollars to pay English-speaking Russians to promote President Vladimir Putin and his policies in U.S. media like Fox News broadcasting and The Huffington Post and Politico news sites. Trolls are reportedly expected to manage multiple fake accounts and post on news articles 50 times a day, often with sentiments as simplistic as “Putin makes Obama look stupid and weak!”

They do this only in an attempt to win the trust of anti-Obama folks -- a clever/sneaky way to add credibility to their pro-Russia, pro-Putin BS.
Yet it seems to work on some of us! In reality, Obama is the best thing that has happened to Russia in a long time.

Before this no one has mentioned that Russia may be putting their military and MISSILES in Syria for one purpose: take out Israeli jets on their way to bomb Iran.

Yup. Thats’ what they are doing.

Which now means Israel will have to first take out the Russians in Syria before proceeding on to Iran......

Watch for it......

It makes perfect sense. Because the Iran deal, at least according to Trump's read, states that Iran's nuke facilities must be protected from attacks. This apparently INCLUDES US protection! Russia has recently installed anti-aircraft systems in Syria, yet neither ISIS nor any of the rebel groups apparently have aircraft! So, obviously, the anti-aircraft weaponry will be used for 'other' purposes, such as, perhaps, helping prevent an Israeli air attack on Iran nuke facilities, or at some point, helping protect them or their interests there (the Russians' and/or their Syrian allies) from NATO air attacks.

Not right—If Israel attacks Iran, they will send their airfleet south over Saudi Arabia and attack by flying over the ocean. Maybe refuel in Arabia? As Subs launch Missles to aid in the attack. No need to fly over Syria.

Of course Putin and Russia LOVE the Iran deal.

Think about it. Russia will be able to supply Iran with uranium. Where will they be mining it? Well, thanks to the Obama regime, right here in the good old USA!

So we’ll be providing the nuclear fuel, for Russia to profit from selling that fuel to Iran, to create nuclear weapons that will eventually be targeted against us.

Wasn’t it Kruchev who said that America will sell the USSR the rope with which the USSR will hang us?

Mark

The Syrian-based Russian anti-aircraft systems couldn't pose any threat to Israel aircraft at least as they launched? Serious question, I'm far from an expert on these things. In any event, it will be one less option available to Israel in the event of an Israeli air attack on Iran's nuke facilities.

But still the question remains: why then is Russia sending anti-aircraft systems to Syria when neither ISIS nor the other groups there apparently have aircraft? Must be to use against NATO forces in some shape or form.

For the Russians, this is about far more than just making some money on selling stuff to the Iranians or whoever. They are currently on the move seeking to make a major comeback on the world stage following their humiliation over the Soviet Union collapse. They have never had a better opportunity than now, with Obama in the WH, to do just that. And he is (willingly) paving the way for them with his various deals on missile defense and nukes. Obama basically shares with Moscow the same "new international order" vision. ie, weaker US, stronger Russia and China.

Russia is moving in to become the dominant power in the Middle East, the role that the US has given up. It’s really not complicated.

Makes one wonder about Obama’s intent since he did tell Russia he would be more flexible in their regard after the 2012 election.
