The officer who led the investigation of Bowe Bergdahl’s disappearance and capture in Afghanistan six years ago testified Friday that the Army sergeant said he walked away from his post as part of a plan to spark a search and get the attention of a general so he could express his concerns about his unit’s leadership.

It shouldn’t matter if he left to become a priest. He left his post. There is no justification for that. You leave your post and if your intentions are good (doubtful) that’s all that you need to explain. That just ain’t right.

I wonder if the whole thing was about getting 5 terrorists back to the battlefield, with Bergdahl as nothing more than a pawn? I am not a big fan of conspiracy theories, but where Nobama is concerned, I always wonder. I am so cynical of him, that I just assume everything he does, has a sinister motive.
I don’t think this was planned per se. They just took advantage of the situation. It’s a nice little side affect for them.

Been a while since I had to investigated stuff like this, but if they accept that AWOL excuse, all the time he was missing does not count as “good” time in military service. No pay is due, promotions are not allowed, etc.
If my understanding is correct, he will still owe the Army what was left on his enlistment contract before his disappearance.
Oh, he’ll walk. At worst, he’ll be convicted on some lesser charge, then pardoned by Obama.

The Army investigator, Maj. Gen. Kenneth Dahl, was supposed to submit his findings to brass last month but has asked for an extension. The probe was limited to a 60-day window, which ended Aug. 15. There’s no longer a deadline attached, which means the investigation could drag out past the November election.
Dahl last month interviewed Bergdahl at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, in what his lawyer described as an “entirely nonconfrontational” meeting.
Critics doubt Dahl has the skills to conduct a proper interrogation. “No general does this. They have no training,” said the Army official, who requested anonymity upon describing Dahl as a “yes-man.”
The biggest scandal of all is that a dirt bag like Bergdahl was in an airborne unit. Have Army standards fallen that far?
