The top Democrats in the U.S. Congress, Representative Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid, said on Thursday lawmakers should pass a short-term spending measure, known as a continuing resolution, to buy time for negotiating a comprehensive federal budget and avoid a government shutdown.

The two leaders had huddled with President Barack Obama for 90 minutes at the White House to prepare "to pursue conversations leading to negotiations on how we keep government open," Pelosi told reporters outside the White House, adding that they would like to proceed in "a timely fashion." The three of us agree that we want a short-term CR (continuing resolution). We want to make sure that the riders are off that. We want to make sure we have equal money for defense and non-defense," Reid said.

If Boehner and McConnell do this, it will prove that the Dems still control Congress.

they have been operating the government without a budget for years, in violation of the Constitution.

PASS A BUDGET, NOT A TEMPORARY FIX THAT KICKS IT DOWN THE ROAD.

Congress should return to regular business and pass the required individual appropriation bills. If the Democrats in the Senate try to filibuster then they should be blamed for <gasp> shutting down the government. NO MORE CONTINUING RESOLUTIONS!

Good idea in principle to pass regular appropriations bills, but since Pillosey and weirdo Harry have spoken, Bonehead and McTurtel will follow their commands. We have no Republican leadership in either body.

No, they should use the nuclear option and pass the budget bills and send it to Obama to pass or veto. Then let the world know over and over, if he vetoes the bills, then Obama himself is responsible.

Don’t let the press or democrats get the upper hand on reporting this. If they whine about the nuclear option, say the issue is too important to wait, just like Harry did when he ran the Senate to get Obama’s judges and other appointments passes.

Here we go again. Kick the can into December so they can use the backdrop of Christmas to justify ridiculous spending increases. I am totally fooled again...not.

Wait, there’s a budget deadline?! That must be new. Did that just get set?
