The day he got the prize was such a funny day here on Free Republic. Countless threads making fun of Obama winning the prize based on no accomplishments crowded out threads about other items in the news that day.

That Nobel given so early in Obama’s term stunned everybody.
The credibility of the Nobel panel has never recovered from that ridiculous social experiment in wishfull thinking.

Obama has to have been the only person in history awarded the Nobel Prize just for being who he was, in the minds of the awards panel. He had no accomplishments. Alfred Nobel would have fired the whole bunch.

Going from always giving the prize to Marxists to giving the prize to a man who hadn’t accomplished enough to even properly prove he was a Marxist, made the prize a punchline to all of Obama’s foreign policy failures and destroyed any credibility the prize will ever have.

It was politics, pure and simple. He got it for who he was, and not for what he did.

Obama DOES have the record for most lives bombed out of existence by a Noble Peace Prize winner. So there is that.

Not much understanding of how incentive works with those people.

They're giving European-style socialism a bad name or something.

Even the clueless Norweigians can look at the smoldering ruins on a world map and see Obama’s failures everywhere. Their prize isn’t worth having if this pathetic character was awarded it for “participating.”

Like the article says though, it’s not all bad - at least people now realize the nominating committee works by politics, not facts. No more claims of objectivity.

Trivia question - who was the first winner of the Nobel Peace Prize?

* President Teddy Roosevelt
