Cruz is positioned well even in midst of Trump frenzy

Donald Trump is the ultimate wild card...There is one candidate, however, who is nicely positioned.

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has also watched Trump eat at his poll numbers but has remained in the upper tier of the contests. He has the money and following to be relevant throughout the Republican race.

Of 15 candidates in the field not named Trump, Cruz is the contender most likely to share supporters with Trump, or woo them later.

Yes, Carson is an outsider and Cruz is a member of the Senate in an anti-politician environment. But Cruz has solid anti-establishment credentials. Just ask his colleagues who blamed him for the 2013 government shutdown related to the failed effort to kill funding for the Affordable Care Act.

Though Cruz is a senator, his style is more like an activist. He refuses to compromise.

Cruz has another advantage over his rivals.

If he can be competitive in the early contests, which offer few delegates, he’ll have a big score waiting for him on March 1. With Perry out of the race, Cruz has a nearly unobstructed path to the 155 delegates at stake in the Texas primary.

Trump, with his name recognition, could create problems, particularly if he’s coming out of South Carolina like a house on fire. But it’s likely that Cruz, the most popular Republican in Texas, will rout the competition.

A win in Texas and other Super Tuesday elections would give Cruz momentum, making him a front-runner or the alternative to Trump.

No matter what happens with Trump, Cruz is prepared for the long haul.

Trump has always been an asset to Cruz, that's why Cruz isn't touching him. Trump is eliminating Walker, Bush, Rubio, Paul - all of whom had to show well in the 1st four primaries before heading to the South.

Cruz, on the other hand, has only to stay competitive until the southern primaries March 1--- If he wins the SEC Primary, he's the front runner- if not, he's playing for silver.

All in all, not a bad position to be in.

Yeah, remember how Newt had high numbers about this time, then fell to almost noting.

Santorum’s endorsement of “Trayvon Martin” threw it all to Romney. Neither candidate could have won his home states.

Did Newt have $10 billion dollars in his pocket?

Flying under the radar is good for Cruz right now.

I could be wrong (and I often am, LOL), but I’m starting to think Trump is purposely functioning as the political equivalent of an icebreaker ship. Trump is smashing through the media and the GOP-E, forcing issues they’d rather not talk about on to the table, and clearing the path for other candidates of like-mindedness.

That assumes, of course, that Trump doesn’t want the nomination himself, which admittedly is a big assumption on my part. Just a thought.

Put some more thought into it.

Newt was about 10% in the polls at this time in 2011. He surged in November but was still behind Romney. Trump has been in the lead consistently.

As he said tonight, it’s a movement. The implication is that it’s bigger than just him.

Newt after his South Carolina win, and got Romney astroturfed in Florida, he easily gave up afterward when his big money donor(s) dried up.

It’s not going to be Cruz.
Trump has the high poll numbers because he appeals to
more than just the base. Cruz doesn’t appeal to more than just the base and should Trump implode his supporters will scatter.
Ted won’t carry very many moderates and zero Reagan democrats.
Ted is still in single digits, right where he’s been since he started.

Bob Seger’s Running Against the Wind sound about right about now, running against the establishment is more like it.

Cruz is my favorite, but I’d enthusiastically support Trump. I think Trump respects Cruz and would listen to his advice on policy matters.

Really, are you a psychic????

Who’s gonna get these voters?

Anything is possible for Cruz. But if you’re a psychic...who gonna win the superbowl???

“Yeah, remember how Newt had high numbers about this time, then fell to almost noting.”

The GOP establishment did not want Newt to win and did everything to stop him. They will have a harder time this time around with Trump.

Nope I’m not psychic. I just know how to count.
And I know that Cruz isn’t going to carry many moderates when many in his own party call him an extremist bomb thrower.
Maybe you should consult a psychic though and I’m sure if you pay them enough they’ll give you the answer you want.
Ted has been averaging 6-8% since he declared, now he’s polling around 7-10%. He hasn’t gotten traction and he’s not going to get enough traction to get him over.
Sorry.
