I think that is the wrong question. The correct question is: Why are they so terrified of opposing him in a meaningful way?
There are a number of possibilities.
1. They are terrified of the old media coming down on them, because it is in the bag for the Obama administration.
2. They are terrified of being called racists (see one)
3. The Obama administration has had control of the NSA, CIA, FBI, and all the internal and external spying apparatus for 7 years. The Obama administration has no fear of being found out, because they have the old media in their pocket. So, they have the goods on nearly all politicians of both parties, and likely, most of the old media. So they use extortion, pure and simple. In other words, the Republicans do what they are told so as not to be outed.
4. Support for the extortion model is in how Republican’s “scandals” are treated. Libby Scooter gets a felony conviction for forgetting a date. Eric Holder gets a pass for running guns to drug cartels in Mexico.
Obama may be the first president ever to combine this level of extortion with media support. It is clear that he is the first to have access to this level of information about all the political players.
Clinton and Johnson were as corrupt, but did not have the power. Clinton wasn’t black, and Johnson wanted to win in Vietnam.
A possible explanation.
Why would the Democrats jump in? When your opponent is tearing itself in two you don't jump in and patch it up.

And the Washington Generals have once again been crushed by the Harlem Globe Trotters. After who knows how many consecutive losses to the Globe Trotters the Washington Generals are being disbanded.

Because Boehner is doing what the Democrats want. That is why they would work to keep him in power.
The Establishment will do everything it can to crush it, so we have to be as supportive as we can.
