California Assembly Approves Assisted Suicide Bill
Truth Revolt ^ | 9/9/15 | Paul Bois

Posted on 09/09/2015 4:22:36 PM PDT by markomalley

The ghost of Brittany Maynard came back for yet another haunting Wednesday when the California Assembly voted to allow physician-assisted suicide by a vote of 43-34.

After having lost in the California Senate back in June due to efforts largely from the Roman Catholic Church, the merchants of death simply regrouped and returned to the lower house of the legislature to approve the End of Life Option Act.

With Wednesday's vote locked up, the bill will now move on to the state Senate once again, where it must pass two committees before advancing to the Senate floor for a vote. Should it pass the Senate floor, the law will take effect in just 31 days unless Democratic Governor Jerry Brown were to veto it. Jerry Brown has given no indication on whether or not he would sign it into law.

The sudden popularity of so-called "Assisted Suicide" in California all stems from Brittany Maynard, the 29-year-old brain cancer patient who made her suicide a national spectacle by shifting over to Oregon so she could participate in that state's legalized self-annihilation. Both Maynard's former husband and family have been champions of the bill since being introduced in the California legislature last May.

Current polls in the once "golden state" of California show support of "Assisted Suicide" has been on the steady increase. The rise in popularity came to a head when the California Medical Association dropped its three decade long opposition to "Assisted Suicide" by choosing to take a neutral stance.

Should California legalize "Assisted Suicide," it will join Oregon, Washington, Montana and Vermont.

One’s own life is between an individual and his/her God or god.

So long as it hurts no one else, has proper safeguards to not be urged, the State should keep its ham hands off an adult making the most personal decision he/she can make.

This is my last post on the matter since I know many Nanny-Staters want to impose yourself on innocent people in agony.

Heck, I’ll volunteer to assist the California State Assembly in their endeavor to commit suicide.

Any doctor that participates in an assisted suicide is violating their Hippocratic Oath and guilty of homicide.

So long as it hurts no one else, has proper safeguards to not be urged, the State should keep its ham hands off an adult making the most personal decision he/she can make.

Individuals have been able to commit suicide long before the first ever assisted suicide bill was passed. Doctors have winked their eyes and prescribed drugs necessary for patients to commit suicide for just as long (under the aegis of "palliative care")

So long as it hurts no one else…

To claim that it hurts no one else is highly unlikely. A person would have to be a true loner for that to even be even likely true.

has proper safeguards to not be urged…

When legalized, families, healthcare providers, and bureaucrats (think Medicare, VA) will start offering it as an option. How long will it be until that option will be pushed as the "selfless" option? Countries that had "assisted suicide" as an option early on now have legalized euthanasia. For example, in the UK, a dying patient can be placed (without appeal) on the so-called "Liverpool Care Pathway" [look it up if not familiar with it]

the State should keep its ham hands off an adult making

Agreed. The State should keep its ham hands off of it. The State sanctioning it is hardly keeping its ham hands off of this decision.

It could be like registering democrats to vote...only its assisting them to off themselves...this actually could be considered humane in that situation?

The sick, the disabled and the elderly better get out of CA while they still can.

"The State should keep its ham hands off of it. The State sanctioning it is hardly keeping its ham hands off of this decision."

Exactly , these people trust government . Seems like government is their real God. Then they rant how others are nanny staters. This is the most liberal California government making thousand page laws and regulations to have bureaucrats attend to these “assisted” suicide laws. Massive laws , more bureaucracy. and here some are advocating for more gov laws.

A lot trust government , the government of Califorinia, California politicians and gov moon beam to do something for them here. They'd be better off trusting the mafia or gangs.

God alone has the right to give or take a life.

“Over 30% of Euthanasia Cases in Belgian Region Did Not Give Consent: Study”

“In one region of Belgium, over 30 percent of reported euthanasia cases were carried out without the consent of the patient, a study has found. At the same time, the overall number of official reported deaths by euthanasia are dramatically increasing in the country since the practice was legalized in 2002, with 40 per cent more cases reported for 2009 than the previous year.

A team of Belgian and Dutch end-of-life researchers circulated a questionnaire to physicians who signed death certificates of patients who died in the Belgian region of Flanders between June and November 2007. The study showed that of the 208 reported Flemish deaths involving the use of “life-ending drugs,” 142 were killed with “an explicit patient request,” and 66 “were without an explicit request.”..”

And knowing Cali, they will force the taxpayers to pay for them.

It’s evil, any way you slice it.

This coming from the state that brought you ‘gay’ unions by overturning Prop 8. As goes California, so goes the nation (eventually). Maybe that’s the plan. Gotta cull that herd.

People have learned nothing from the slippery-slope advancement of abortion and gay marriage. A “right to die” dispensed by physicians will very quickly become an “obligation to die.” Old people and those with chronic illnesses—be very afraid. And that’s just for starters.
