Obama’s Iran Deal Is Still Far from Settled
Nationalreview.com ^ | 9/05/15 | Andrew C. McCarthy

The review process under the Corker law never began — by the law’s own terms. To undermine President Obama’s atrocious Iran deal despite the Republican-controlled Congress’s irresponsible Corker legislation, it will be necessary to follow, of all things, the Corker legislation. On Wednesday, Barbara Mikulski became the 34th Senate Democrat to announce support for the deal, which lends aid and comfort to a regime that continues to call for “Death to America.” Under the Corker Roadmap to Catastrophe, Mikulski’s assent ostensibly puts President Obama over the top. After all, the legislation sponsored by Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Bob Corker (R., Tenn.) and other Beltway GOP leaders reverses the Constitution’s presumptions against international agreements that harm national security. In essence, Corker requires dissenters from the Iran pact to round up a two-thirds supermajority opposition in both congressional chambers (67 senators and 290 House members). If the Constitution were followed, the burden would be on the president to convince either 67 senators to support a treaty, or majorities of both chambers to make the pact legally binding through ordinary legislation.

OK if I am reading this correct (and I am not sure) if they vote it will be under treaty rules (2/3 needed) because Obama did not follow the Corker Bill rules correctly.......Freepers please read this and let me know your thoughts.

Correct. However, it requires the majority leadership to press the issue and force compliance with the law. That requires them to possess gonads Something which they are sorely missing.

Fear not. The rock ribbed patriots that demanded we elect these great American leaders of our esteemed House and Senate NO MATTER WHAT that campaigned ON WORKING WITH OBAMA over powerless freshman Dems are surely on their way to DC to uphold their promise to hold feet to fire.

Because otherwise they’d be flat out liars that conned most of y’all.

Unfortunately, I don’t think any of this matters. Obama and Western Europe are racing ahead to release over $100 billion to Iran, lift sanctions, sign contracts, provide technical assistance to Iran’s nuclear program and even to defend Iran’s facilities against any outside attack. Because the Congress has been unwilling to cut off funding to Obama’s outlaw government, impeach and remove Obama from office, Congress is now just a pontificating society and of no consequence to Obama.

The author makes some valid points. But I wouldn’t bet a wooden nickel on the Republicans in Congress to put up any kind of serious opposition. To me, any opposition by the likes of Boehner and McConnell is all for show. What they actually get out of this, I have no idea.

Unfortunately, the lawlessness will continue and the so-called Republicans will continue to bow down and whimper. They are as complicit and responsible for all the evil consequences of this pact with devils as Zero and his demoncrats are.

Gutless cowards all.

Since when do the Republican force Democrats or specifically President Puto to follow the rules in place? Today? If I knew how to place that cartoon dude rolling on the floor laughing his azz off I would place it right here.... ......

This would be wonderful if true.............I pray it is and that the GOP has the back bone to stand firm on this. Wonder if Corker did this on purpose - could he have been so smart?

When you read the comments you notice there isn't a scintilla of hope the Republican leadership will put American first. They won't in this situation either.

"Obama’s arrogance and overreach have given Republicans a golden opportunity..."

How many times in the past seven years have we read this sentiment? This is a good article, but lets face it, when one side wants to lose, its all academic, and becomes tedious to read. The Republicans don't want to stop Obama, they just want to be able to say they didn't support him.

yes. but Congress has to do their part or it could end up in the courts and the lack of action would be seen as agreement. Fabulous article.

By the “agreement” with Iran the negro community organizer from Chicago has, in the long run, sacrificed an American city to Iran’s soon to be developed ICBM mounted with a nuclear war head.

While the Republicans may have the power to do exactly as this article advocates, I do not believe that they will. Too many Republicans will be stuffing money into their pockets from those who favor Obama’s plan. Only the American people would benefit by putting a stop to the Obama/Kerry sell out, so don’t expect politicians to do anything.

It's delusional.

as long as Republicans follow the law they wrote and Obama signed.

Republican's follow the law they wrote??? Wouldn't that require Republican leadership to also own testicles AND be sober??? Game, set, match. Then, what difference does the law make? In DC our puppeteers only follow the laws that they like. Our Balloon Head In Chief hates the United States like the devil hates holy water. Giving nuclear weapons to terrorists that are developing technology to deliver then to Chicago, if they like, is the most natural of things.

He hates Jews as much as Hillary does. Giving Iran nuclear weapons is the most natural of things.

Our testosterone challenged leaders can simply say, "Time to move on?"

The last piece to every issue in DC is the law itself. It matters not in the least what the law says. It it doesn't fit the desire dujour, they only need to change a few definitions, so all criteria are met. In DC words only mean what they want them to mean, even in the Supreme Court.

After Iran gets nuclear warheads, ICBMs, $150 billion in Obama terrorist seed money and otherwise free trade, how does it help for someone to say, "Well, it isn't the outcome anyone other than Obama, Kerry, clinton and the rest of the Democrats could have desired."

When Iran causes the need to trigger reestablishment of sanctions, who will pull that trigger? McCarthy's theorizing isn't as arcane as a standard George Will assessment. It is just as useless. There is probably a time in our history when we have had this concentration of eunuchs in DC. The stakes today are at least tied for the highest ever.

Understand that the rest of the world doesn't like us very much. And likes Israel even less.

Moreover, while it might be short-sighted, their view is modified by essentially having "no skin in the game". It is Israel and the U.S. that Iran threatens with their soon-to-be-realized nuclear ability. The mullahs are not leading cheers shouting "Death to France".

Instead, the other parties to the deal can look forward to handsome profits stemming from legitimatized trade with the Iranian regime. They aren't exposed to any obvious risk (aside from radioactive fallout).
