Side bar......Have you good folks taken note of the Jeb Bush faithful (the handfull) listening to Jeb Bush attack Donald Trump? They all look like graveyard mummies...asleep at the wheel!!! Impassioned, inspiring, on fire, are not words I would use to describe them!!! Methinks, Jeb Bush is headed for the obscurity GOP (e) line to join Rick Perry, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, Jim Gilmore, Rand Paul as the “has been” failures they all are!! Hopfully, we can soon include, Obamabot GOP (e) adorees, Mitch McConnell & John Boehner among the turncoat GOP (e) RINOs!!!
I understand your point and share it. But choosing to speak a language in addition to English isn’t un-American. In fact, it allows (BIG caveat here re Jeb) a candidate to spread the message of conservatism to more people than might otherwise hear it. IOW, it’s not the language, it’s the message. So people need to concentrate on what he SAYS, not the language in which he says it.
My wife is from Mexico, and it pisses HER off that ballots are in Spanish (and believe me, she speaks Spanish a LOT around the house and with friends and family anywhere they meet).
I, as the grandchild and husband of immigrants, am not in any way opposed to languages other than English being used in the US. However, BALLOTS NEED TO BE IN ENGLISH, ALWAYS! If you don't know English well enough to read a ballot (which is not, after all, a graduate-level thesis on nuclear physics), then you have no business being a citizen and voting. People need to adopt the culture and language of their new country enough to be able to participate in civic affairs - and whatever else they do on their own time is their business.
See my post 42 - I don’t think we have a big disagreement. And my paternal grandparents were first-generation Swedish-Americans, and that culture both fully assimilated and kept much of its heritage (while speaking English except when they prayed over meals).
And I’m a Cruz guy and have little use for Jeb.
” How can a salesman sell his product if the customer doesn’t even understand what he’s saying?”
It’s worse than that - the customer despises how he’s saying it.
. . . and because our laws and Constitution are in English.
We are definitely not far apart - both on the language issue and on our choice. Or, for that matter, in where we live. :>)
On the language issue, I understand where you’re coming from regarding spreading the message in a way that hits home with newer voters. But people doing that have to understand that it also sends a message to OTHER voters - and particularly so in Jeb’s case, given his positions on immigration. Were Ted Cruz to speak to some audience in Spanish, I don’t think that there would be a reaction like we’ve seen with Jeb.
Speaking of Cruz, I REALLY like the guy for President and have sent him some money. But at this point, I am for Trump. When there was first talk of him running, I hoped that he wouldn’t, and viewed him as a political clown. But I listened to his message (not the picayune arguments with reporterettes) and saw the reaction among voters, and then started to take him a bit more seriously. As time has gone on, he’s become more polished (or less unpolished, to be more precise) as a pol, and he’s garnering even more support. Now, also, I have read Ann Coulter’s “Adios America,” and it has convinced me that there is one issue that is so important to our society that must be addressed and successfully dealt with, such that all other issues are of secondary importance. I am firmly of the belief that if we get a Dem, or the wrong Republican (specifically Jeb, but regrettably others still running), then we are going to get amnesty of 30 million or more illegals. That one act will destroy this nation as we have known it - it will give the Dems a permanent advantage (which was, after all, the very goal of the 1965 Immigration Act); if that happens, all states will be like California, and we will lose on EVERY issue that we care about - taxes, abortion, gun control, national defense, trade, marriage, freedom of religion, regulations, etc., etc. None of them will matter any more, because we will be so outnumbered at the voting booth that we will never get what we want in these areas.
Immigration is supposed to benefit a nation, not destroy its culture. Trump is the only guy out there who is both promising to fix the problem, and who is electable. Cruz can be his Veep or his A.G., and then run for President in 2024 with a lot more experience, and favors owed to him, under his belt.
That comeback of Jebbie’s was incredibly lame and ineffective; not to mention something a lib such as Hillary would say.
Jebby Bush is simply a traitor to American workers or even Americans who are sick and tired of an illegal invasion running across their lawns (like San Diego at one time, dunno if it still happens), stolen SSN’s, fake ID’s, lawless gangs, etc. etc. etc.
He is here to push the Establishment lie for the Cheap Labor Express and cares not one whim about you. If you starve to death because there’s no work, it’s OK for this clown so he can buy more jewelry for Columba and take a line from his brother’s “jobs Americans won’t do” while they farm out jobs to anyone else.
I’m almost as sick of his daily lies as O. No wonder they’re such pals; they’re cut from much the same cloth.
I might borrow that with a little change.
Jeb wants to be favored by the LGBTs
(Latino/Guatemalan/Brazilian/Transmexicans).
Now he is using the left-wings term of dog whistle too.
He is running as a Republican right?
Nor is it the best bang-for-the-taxpayer-buck for govt to be printing/translating/etc. in more than one language.
Course, what do they care? It’s not THEIR $$ they’re spending hand over fist.
Hey Jeb, if they can’t speak English they got no business voting. You have to speak English to become a citizen.
Here is a guy who was given everything yet he denigrates America and supports bringing in Mexico to replace Americans. He has much help from the GOP. All about money with some and hatred for others.
