There’s Only One Candidate People Actually Like – and It’s Not Trump or Clinton (it's Ben Carson)
The Fiscal Times ^ | September 3, 2015 | Rob Garver

The only one of the declared presidential candidates that Americans have positive feelings for overall isn’t a frontrunner and has never held public office before. According to a poll released Thursday by Public Policy Polling, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson is the sole presidential candidate whose favorability rating is higher than his or her unfavorability rating.

When asked about Carson, 41 percent of the respondents in the national poll reported that they felt favorably about him, compared to 30 percent who have an unfavorable view. That puts him well ahead of all the other candidates in the field, though 29 percent of respondents said they were not familiar enough with Carson to make a judgment about him, suggesting that those numbers could change as he becomes more widely known. The only other candidate to come close to an overall favorable rating was former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, who at 32/35 had an overall favorability rating of -3.

It’s amazing how cynical FRs are.

Think we can only use a shark? Nice people are not strong?

What a bunch of fools.

Carson may have exactly what is needed. Quiet, calm steady strength. We know he is principled. Just because he is polite and calm and gentle makes him weak, and a target for Putin?

Don’t be so fooled.

Reagan is more talkative and happier than Carson, but he showed his strength without nasty talk and threats and insults.

I have had indirect experience with this man being near Baltimore. He fixed my baby nephew, reassured my sister and mother, and told them when it was done, they should be thanking God, not him.

Last month my dad was in Hopkins and a friend, who is a nurse at Hopkins, visited us. She said when she worked under his pediatric unit, some time back, he walked in the room during a very sad meeting re a dying child, and everyone shut up with their foulness, and general muttering, and all eyes were on him. He was the leader, and all quietly listened to what he said, and his word was the rule. period. He just had commanded such respect and reverence.

That is ALSO an excellent quality.

And in some ways it reminds me of Washington, albeit even more low-key.

>>If this were true.............why isn’t Carson beating Trump massively, by double digits in the state polls and national?<<

First, it apparently is true. When the same people who put Trump at the top of the pack when all candidates were considered were then asked how they’d vote if it were just Trump vs. Bush, Trump won handily. Ditto for Walker, Rubio, and Cruz (who lost only by 7 points as I recall)

But when those people were asked the Trump vs. Carson vote, Carson won by almost 20 points (19, I think it was, like 57-38 or so)

How do you explain that? Easy, when people are asked who they support overall, they go with the guy they think will win most of the time, and Trump has been getting non-critical 24/7 news coverage for a month now. When you put him up against a politician, he wins, even though a lot of us are really skeptical of a Trump presidency. Personally, I think he’s a complete joke who’s saying what you want to hear, for example.

Then you put him up against another non-politician who most people actually like and he gets blown away himself. It makes sense.

As for Carson losing the general election, I think the Dems are scared stiff that the GOP could nominate him because he’d tear into their black voter base which is their most reliable source of votes. Just imagine if some of those 100% Obama districts actually had Carson poll watchers, i.e., GOP poll watchers, for once.

I’m not saying I’ll vote for him, but he’s doing amazingly well so far. And note that Trump, so far, has let him be, along with Cruz. I wonder why? He’s clearly a larger threat than some of the candidates Trump’s been berating lately.

Well pal you can kiss my lily white ass whether you finished college, joined the National Guard or got drafted. If you can pull your lips off of Trumps ass long enough to do that. Oh yeah one other thing, GFY. Cheers!

So Clinton was a draft dodger and Trump was what? A warrior on a white horse? No, Trump was a draft dodger which in the vernacular means he avoided serving in the armed forces. It’s an elite thing. And what you think about my reputation is about as important as what Obama thinks about climate change.

He told one news station he ‘used to be a flaming liberal’

Sure, anyone can change I suppose, but it makes one leery to hire a person like this and HOPE they don’t go liberal again after they get elected-

I could not agree with you more. Sending all the illegals home is paramount to me in this next election.

Oh please....nothing you posted makes Carson qualified to be president!

Any DEM will walk all over him, IF he ever manages to win the nomination, which he won't.

You're the fool; Carson is NOT presidential timber!

Sorry, you’re not going to be able to find a candidate who will ever do that, although you might find one, like Trump for example, who will try to make you think that’s what he’ll do. But it’s not going to happen, not all illegals.

That said, we’d better send a lot of them home and get hold of the border, but nearly every candidate supports that position, except maybe Bush

Carson is an amnesty shill, and is not remotely qualified to be POTUS.

You're delusional about blacks voting for Carson; they aren't and won't!

I saw that poll and it makes NO sense at all; none! If that many people would vote for Carson over Trump, why are the polls the antithesis now? But then, I can't understand why ANYONE is for jebbie.

Trump only fights against those who start up with him. Neither Cruz nor Carson have hit out at him.

I prefer you didn’t. You started our converstaion by telling me to kis yur ass. Now you want to pray for me? Lol. No thanks. You would do better praying that a man who thinks single payer, stealing property from a private citizen to give to a business with deep pockets and buying politcians are all good thingsnever occupies the White GHouse this time around.
