Two of the most interesting Mars Curiosity rover images I've seen (not the ones from the news)
NASA

Posted on 09/03/2015 10:47:39 AM PDT by Sir Gawain

Maybe it's just Martian weather making straight lines, 90 degree angles, and cuts that look machine made. I really don't know what to think about these but they sure are interesting.

Here are the two images straight from NASA:

“SO what. I guess you have never spent time with rocks that have been severely weathered.”

FWIW, I was thinking I’d expect to see more weathering, i.e. few sharp edges instead of many.

It does look like rubble though.

I read that several months ago and thought the depiction of the astronaut’s thought processes as he calculated his survival strategy was fascinating. I understand they’re making it into a movie.

Not bad. There are clearly a few carvings on the rocks similar to what we see in Egypt. Or at least what we call Egypt.

The “foot” rock has a 90 degree line cut in it. You’re right that I’ve never seen weathering do that.

OK, I'm with you on this. Looks like two distinct types of rocks, the small sandy colored ones embedded in the sand and the larger dark colored ones.

The dark colored ones certainly don't fit in on the landscape with the small sandy colored ones and look like the remains of a stone structure blown to smithereens. Either that or a meteor struck and exploded. But that doesn't explain the sharp angles or the ones with holes drilled into them......

If I had to make a guess I would say they're the remnants of an ancient civilization or the Mars rover isn't on Mars at all and we're being hoaxed.......

Best book I have read in a long time. One of those ‘can-do’ protagonists that the elite love to sneer at.

Last one is definitely the best one. Looks like a shell casing from an alien weapon ... or maybe it’s an alien grenade, which would also explain the lack of actual aliens in the photos; they all ran away when that thing landed :)

The 90 degree angle is odd but most of the straight lines in the other photos look like weathering (which could be by wind) of sedimentary rocks.

This is not a great example, but it’s something I found quickly by searching for “weathered Sedimentary Rocks” on google images:

1. Dry rocks still weather.
2. Mars has received precipitation fairly recently in its geological history. It’s covered with channels (not the canals of legend, but riverways).
