ATHENS, Greece – Greek authorities say a partial inventory of unregistered weapons found on a Libya-bound freighter includes nearly 500,000 rounds of ammunition and 5,000 "police-style" shotguns.

A coast guard statement Wednesday said that so far two of the 14 containers found on the Bolivian-flagged Haddad 1 have been searched. A coast guard special unit stopped the ship early Tuesday off Crete, and took it to the island's port of Iraklio.

I remember arguing with people I know when the Obama Administration and the NY Times were celebrating "the Arab Spring!" like it was great news and a great Obama accomplishment.

"It's the rise to power of the most militant fundamentalist Islamic forces in these countries!" I'd argue, but the NY Times told them it was great news and they believe that reading the NY Times makes them smarter rather than stupider.

Bet its coming from Turkey. Turkey cranks out those styles of shotguns now. The Turkeys are a conduit between Libya and ISIS. That’s what Benghazi was all about, a State/CIA gun running operation through Turkey, to ISIS.

I agree Libya probably wasn’t the final destination. After the revolution Libya was the weapons flea market for the world as warehouses that Qadaffi had been filling for decades emptied onto the market.

I've seen inserts that were shotshell-size for the pistol calibers you posted. Looks like a PITA for extraction of the fired case if it gets dirty.

Believe me, this is EXACTLY the kind of arms embargo the UN wants to impose on America. They'd LOVE to stop the sale of arms at FFL's in America. And Obama'd love to help them do it.

ISIS, many of whom are (masked) former Iraq Bathist officials and military members, needs to create the appearance of stability in the land they hold. That means getting the savage looking jihadi fighters, brandish knives and AK’s, off the streets. Send them to the frontline or kill them -whatever. Replace them with a (in a relative sense) civil police force (in appearance at least) carrying shotguns.
