Thus ends a breathtaking performance of Republican failure theater. Once upon a time, knowing that your party controlled both chambers of Congress would have given you great comfort that a terrible treaty negotiated with a terrorist power could never become law in the United States.
I think this makes it official: Im on the Trump bandwagon. Hail Caesar.
Whatd the GOP get out of all this? What did their huge advantage in the House and their eight-seat majority in the Senate ultimately amount to in terms of concessions? Its one thing to lose a momentous fight on foreign policy, ceding all of your constitutional leverage in the process, but if you can get some goodies for your side at least you can say its not a total loss. Unless I missed something, we got nothing.
Not a thing not even, in all likelihood, the right to crow and say that our resolution of disapproval passed the Senate with plenty of Democratic support. This fiasco will end with an essentially party-line vote on cloture, leaving Obama free to argue to the world that the deal has the acquiescence of the U.S.
heres Dick Cheney wondering why Republicans ever agreed to treat this deal as something less than a treaty in the first place. Oh, by the way: Irans hardliners, the same people whom Barack Obama thinks are making common cause with Republicans, want you to know that nothing about this agreement has changed their conviction that the United States is indeed the Great Satan and that, if anything, they should go ahead and expand the reach of their ballistic missiles because of that.

Sent note below to Sen. Coons & Mikulski...not that it will do any good but I have to try. Sick of Congress putting Party, themselves above our country!
“If you agree to the Iranian ‘deal’, how will you live with yourself in the event our great country suffers a direct or indirect attack by Iran where thousands are killed or maimed?
The ‘leaders’ of Iran are clear about their hate for America and Israel. They’ve clearly stated their intentions to destroy Israel. And, since they view America as the great Satan, what do you believe they intend for us?
The Democrat position that it’s either this ‘deal’ or war is fallacious and, Sen. Coons, I’m sure you know this. Sanctions have worked in the past, so why, suddenly, a ‘deal’ is our only option?
Isn’t it time for Senators and Representatives to do what is in the country’s best interests vs voting with ‘the Party’? What happened to patriotism?
Sen. Coons, I pray you will come to the conclusion that YOU are an American BEFORE you are a Democrat! Vote against the ‘deal’ with Iran.”
Even partisan Democrats should be disturbed by two things:
The fact that we’re obligated to protect Iran’s nukes against an Israeli attack, and
The fact that the Iranian regime is already making deals for weapons in violation of the agreement.
If those two pints don’t bother them, then they truly are anti-Semitic and unpatriotic (and pro-war.)
How long before Ditch just cancels the vote?
Send it to Cardin too.
Mikulski is allegedly Jewish. Go figure.
OK then. Dems, you own this.
Thanks a Barb, you lesbian dwarf. One of her last acts as a Senator. And a real lulu!
Seconded!
Mikulski is retiring next year. I wonder what the one promised her.
I wish Republicans had control of congress.
This will be found on the path to unavoidable Armageddon
Of course they can stop it- they can deem it a treaty and reject it. Time to give Obama a taste of his own dishonesty.
It’s not a treaty, but rather, an administrative agreement. See here:
A number of Senators tried to amend the Corker bill, including an amendment that would have changed it to a treaty. It failed.
Thanks, will do. Couldn’t remember the 3rd name I heard this morning.
It’s impossible to understand how ANY of our elected Officials could agree to this ‘deal’.
Iran self-inspections???? What happened to us?? Sad and scary.
How about this. It will be also the members of congress children or grandchildren who will have to do the protecting Iran’s Nukes against any attacks. Wonder if they though of that?
The GOPE didn’t try.
The Republicrats are no different than the Demicans.
99.98% of elected officials currently in office are liars and thieves.
Just as a matter of interest; 100% of the corpse eaters who supposedly represent my area in congress and the senate are LIARS, THIEVES, and COMMUNIST QUEERS.
So they can vote against it, and say, "gosh darn, too bad about that veto. We tried." wink wink.
After all, we are all rubes.
Corker is from Chattanooga
