Officer Critically Wounded, Dog Killed After Georgia Police Respond to Wrong House

It started with police going to the wrong house. It ended with a homeowner, an officer and a dog shot.

DeKalb County police were responding to a 911 call about a suspicious person Monday night, the Atlanta-area police department said.

But the caller didn’t give an address for the house where the suspicious person was seen, county public safety director Cedric Alexander said. Instead, the caller described it as a gray-and-brick home.

So three officers went to a house that matched that description near the same intersection, Alexander said. He said they went to the back of a home where they thought a burglary might be occurring.

“Once there at the rear of the residence, they noticed that the screen door was unlocked, and the back door was unlocked,” he said.

Alexander said the officers did identify themselves.

“Shortly after that, within a matter of moments, gunfire took place,” he said. “During this gunfire, a dog was shot and killed inside a residence.”

The homeowner and a DeKalb police officer were both shot in the leg.

“The officer is critical. He lost a lot of blood,” Alexander said. “The homeowner, who was struck in the leg, is also at the hospital as well.”

The police chief said details about how the shooting broke out are under investigation. He said he could not confirm whether one or multiple officers fired shots.

“A lot has yet to be determined here as to what and when shots were fired — how the officer received injuries, how the homeowner received injuries,” Alexander said.

“But we did respond to the wrong resident here tonight. And then these other circumstances unfolded.”

The police chief said he decided to turn the case over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to ensure an independent probe.

He said all three of the officers who were at the scene will be placed on administrative leave.

Man defending home from invasion. Will he see justice? Sorry, until proven otherwise, I give him innocence. Let’s see video and zero trust of police words as perjury more likely than honesty since they broke into. Someone’s home. Luckily all not dead.

We have yet to find out how “innocent” the homeowner is but you can bet on one thing, three officers swearing they identified themselves as police.

Dollars to donuts, the home owner will be charged...

Gee, I thought the police needed probably cause to enter a home...

The police didn’t know which house it was so they just invite themselves in ?

Latest report is cop was shot by another cop, not by homeowner.

In Levittown, every house matched the description.

Yes. I suspect if the homeowner had fired a shot the police would have run out of ammo ventilating him.

The police will walk with the prosecutor and Courts calling this fiasco a “good faith exception” to the warrant requirement. There are lots of case precedents for this. Its a classic law school criminal procedure final exam test question.

Ya know, we need more local cops and SWAT teams to come visit us here on FR.

Cuz, if they just spent a month lurking here, there’s a good chance they’d learn how important it is to double check the address before they start nosing around and shooting at a private residence.

Just wait, they will try and pin it on him, regardless. Someone has to pay.

He stared at them too long, or something..................

Astonishing.

Fratricide? Can’t even trust each other. Or like the earlier graphic, the three stooges. At least so far, unless I missed it, no mention of charges against the homeowner.
