Investigators: Georgia officer likely shot by other officers

ATLANTA (AP) — Police officers who arrived at the wrong Atlanta home after a report of suspicious activity shot the man who lives there, killed his dog and "likely" shot a fellow officer, leaving him seriously wounded, authorities said Tuesday.

The bloody misunderstanding began Monday night when DeKalb County police received a report of a possible burglary at a one-story residence near an intersection in southeast Atlanta. Lacking an exact address, the officers were sent in the dark to a neighborhood where many of the single-story homes look similar.

Three police officers found a home they thought matched a description provided by a 911 caller, but were unable to make contact with anyone inside, according to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They entered the home through an unlocked rear door and two officers fired their guns at a dog, killing it.

It was a setup!

If that’s the case, I don’t want a department this easily fooled carrying weapons.

Who are you cop haters going to call when you need help?

The real question is, “Who am I going to call after the fact when I need an inaccurate report to send to my insurance company”?”

Did these Key Stone cops even think to check the address?

You know, there is this thing now a days called GPS! These determined retreads should really try looking into it.

It`s this satellite based 'thingy' that actually lets you know where you are based on Longitude and Latitude coordinates on maps to within feet, and those coordinates can actually be correlated to home addresses!

This kind of imbecilic STUPIDITY makes it hard to defend them against charges of rampant abuse and/or INCOMPETANCE!

I’m a cop supporter here. That said, did cops creep in through an open door where nothing was going on, kill the dog, shoot each other and the startled homeowner?

That person basically just had his retirement funded I’m thinking. But losing that dog. Cant imagine if someone did that to my friend. Heartbreaking.

I used to post these articles regularly. I was warning that police institutions need to reform themselves or it would become open season on uniformed police. I figured that open season would mean more aggressive policy for police. I stopped posting these articles when the tide turned and officers were being assinated.

We need the police. Police need us. I sure hope the tipping point has not already occurred. Many of us warned them for many years. Perhaps reform is not too late even now. If the institutions do not reform themselves we will suffer anarchy. Nobody wins.

“Too bad they were not wearing Go-cams so that we can see what sort of stupidity (or treachery) actually occurred.”

Every SWAT member absolutely should be wearing one.

They didn’t even have an address, is one of the worst things about this.

“The McKinleys were watching TV – a movie called “Serendipity””

As I recall, ironically, that means “discovering new things” in Greek I think. He sure made a new discovery.

And I suppose they don`t have access to GPS? Every smart phone made now has, but they can`t use an old fashioned Megellan? : http://magellan.premiumstore.com/?cid=1680&chid=1&gclid=CI2C6cbL1scCFQswaQodc-sIFA

I’m a cop supporter here.

I’m a supporter of all of the things cops are supposed to do, but not of their unions or practices.

If these cops, wanna-be Combat Warriors, were held to the same standards and accountability as our Marines & Soldiers operating in ACTUAL COMBAT, this SWAT/Shoot-the-Dog nonsense would stop in a heartbeat.
