Yes, Trump Can Win Media, GOP Establishment made same attacks on Reagan.
The American Spectator ^ | 7/14/2015 | Jeffrey Lord

The media assures: Donald Trump can’t possibly win.

The GOP Establishment assures: Donald Trump can’t possibly win.

Hmmm. Where have we heard this kind of thing before? To be specific? Right here when Ronald Reagan ran for president.

• New York Times: Reagan’s candidacy is “patently ridiculous.”

• New York Times: “The astonishing thing is that this amusing but frivolous Reagan fantasy is taken so seriously by the news media. It makes a lot of news, but it makes no sense.”

• New Republic: “Ronald Reagan to me is still the posturing, essentially mindless and totally unconvincing candy man that he’s been in my opinion ever since I watched his first try for the Republican nomination evaporate in Miami in 1968.”

• New Republic: “Reagan is Goldwater revisited…He is a divisive factor in the party.”

• Harper’s magazine: “That he should be regarded as a serious candidate for President is a shame and an embarrassment for the country at large to swallow.”

• Chicago Daily News: “The trouble with Reagan, of course, is that his positions on the major issues are cunningly phrased nonsense — "

• Time: “Republicans now must decide whether he represents a conservative wave of the future or is just another Barry Goldwater calling on the party to mount a hopeless crusade against the twentieth century.”

• Newsweek: Ronald Reagan is “a man whose mind and nerve and mediagenic style have never been tested in Presidential politics and may not be adequate to the trial.”

• National Review: “Reagan’s image remains inchoate.… At the outset of his campaign, his image is largely that of the role-playing actor — pleasant on stage, but ill-equipped for the real world beyond the footlights. Reagan does not yet project the presidential image. He is not seen as a serious man.”

This article was probably already posted, but it needs to be posted again.

I've taken some heat on this forum comparing the campaigns of Reagan and TRump. Trump is no Reagan, although their energies, at the same age in their lives was quite similar.

I vividly recall the Bush Family going after REagan. They made fun of his war records, "At least I, (Bush) flew planes, rather than pretended to." Look at the list of publications and authors listed in this article that were bashing REagan, who ended up losing NH.

We now have the same thing going on, maybe worse. We hear that the RNC is planning a Labor Day blitzkrieg against Trump, and lining up to that we get this stuff from O'Reilly, Krauthammer, George Will and the rest. IN fact, George Will endorsed George H.W. Bush over Ronald Reagan in ’80 as did many other conservatives like James Kirkpatrick.

Please read the article. Look at the commentary from National Review and others. REminds you of the editorial from the same against Trump?

I don't think these people realize that the more they push back, the more people esp people from all walks of life, politics, income and ethnicity will come out for Trump.

Trump is already President .... THIS much momentum is unstoppable

even if obozo called for Martial Law and shut the country down and dispatched all of his forces to arrest, kill or whatever ...

ONE word from Trump and the nation's 6 million plus guns would be at the ready, no longer an internet statistic.

It probably WOULDN'T be televised, it would happen so fast

Does ANYONE think we're not ready ?

Reagan enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1934, well before World War II broke out. Reagan was limited in what he could do as his eyesight was terrible. As for Bush and his pilot hero status, I harken back to the crewmember of a plane ahead of his who has publicly asserted that the plane was showing no smoke when Bush bailed out. The Bush account of what happened has materially changed several times over the years. I’m not saying he’s been lying, I have no idea and I credit his courage in flying during wartime; its just that his story has changed over time.

How many of those have we heard said about Trump in the last few weeks?

• New Republic: “Reagan is Goldwater revisited…He is a divisive factor in the party.”

Rand Paul was serving up that one yesterday, and Big Media was probably laughing as they reported it.

Seems the plan now is to elevate Carson up there with Trump.

The idea is to sell Carson as the kinder, gentler Trump. I have heard this several times over the last couple of days.

The GOPe knows Carson doesn’t have the money to go all the way like Jeb does.

They could be rid of Trump and then Jeb uses his big money pot to win the nomination.

You’ve compared; now contrast. Trump is no Ronald Reagan.

Nice. I only turned 18 just in time to vote for Reagan in 1984. I do remember the hubbub prior to the 1980 election when my parents became “Reagan Democrats”.

As a Cruz supporter first and always, I have not been against Trump’s campaign nor investigated any of his other positions beyond the reintroduction of the word “illegal” back into the national dialog.

Thus, I’m not comfortably sure of what a Trump nomination would mean exactly. I’m also equally not sure about it all should he become President.

What I do wholeheartedly welcome is the continuing butt hurt and angst his against-all-conventional-logic performance represents to the Dinosaurs of Deceit: GOP government leadership, Party leadership, Consultants, Media - all those demons who have given away our country and sold us out for their own personal and professional gain.

All that said, IF he gets the nomination, I will vote for him - because I surely know what the alternative is.

I am not saying that, and in fact say that he’s not.

Never said he was. Saying simply that REagan took a lot of heat from so called conservatives, same as Trump.

The GOP will do anything to have their exempt candidate or the democrat win the election. They will do anything they can to sabotage the conservative candidates, anything. Ask yourself, which conservative leaning candidate can break through the GOP blockade?

Yes, I know that. It is why I’m so against both establishment Parties.

I’m just not confident of his aegis in that duty described in the reference. Nevertheless, is he is the remaining candidate through nomination, I believe he is the best alternative.

I don’t think nikos is saying that Trump is another Reagan. He meant that the GOP elite are giving Trump the same scornful treatment that they gave Reagan.

There , so far, has never been another Reagan. Probably never will be again.

They could be rid of Trump and then Jeb uses his big money pot to win the nomination.

And then Hill slaughters !Yeb because !Yeb can NOT compete with the owner of the once free press, no matter how much money he throws at it.

The sick part of it is the GOP KNOWS THIS!

Bob Dull, Juan McLame, Mutt Romney....

As long as the GOP plays the game they can keep their golden parachutes!

If Trump wins, he must NOT pick a RINO as a VP (as Reagan did).

Do not compromise!
