On Saturday, GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said illegal immigrants are treated better than Wounded Warriors and veterans in America.
Speaking in Nashville at a National Federation of Republican Assemblies event, Trump said that “illegal immigrants, in many cases–not in all cases, but in many cases–are treated better than our veterans, who are the greatest people we have.” Trump spoke about some of the horrors veterans have had to face in accessing basic medical care and services and vowed that veterans would be treated like first-class citizens under a Trump administration.

Also, sadly, our colleges are churning out people with degrees in STEM fields that don’t actually know some of the basics. A company I do IT work for also is a subcontractor for Bell Helicopters. They had three openings for entry level mechanical engineers. Pay was $75-80K per year in a part of the country where that’s a solid upper middle class income, so it’s not a desire to be cheap; this is also above the national mean for an entry level ME position. Part of the interview was a practical engineering problem that the candidate had to solve, designed by the people who were promoted and had created the vacancies.
Out of the first 1500 or so US applicants who met the minimum qualifications, most were recent graduates. NONE could solve the problem. Zip. Zero. Zilch.
There were 2000 in the second wave. All failed to solve the problem as well. (I was involved in setting up the test machines to make sure they were fairly and correctly configured.) The third wave I don’t have a count on but nobody in that wave passed the test either or were otherwise weeded out.
The company has now been forced to hire in H1Bs (and no, they weren’t cheaper because they *will* be paid the same, it’s company policy to avoid accusations of slave labor and for morale purposes) because they *can’t* find competent US mechanical engineers.
I am a combat officer vet and I live in Texas and I can tell him and I should that the U.S. Treats illegal mexicanscand their families far better than they do combat vets and their families
That goes for the government the employers, who demand off the record Spanish speakers, retailers, the local Catholic Church (archbishop Garcia -you), the school system

Also, H1Bs are not permanent immigrants. When they get dismissed unless they find someone else willing to hire them on, back they go. They also don’t get to vote.
Did you miss the part about the jobs being *MECHANICAL ENGINEERING*? As in, have to work with a team that’s here in the US to design helicopter parts? Have to inspect and test designs in the real world? You can’t do that by remote from India. At least not yet. This isn’t software work they were hiring for.
The company tried, over and over, to get competent US mechanical engineering program grads to fill the vacancies. They were not successful, and it wasn’t because of low pay, bad management, or anything else. It was because they couldn’t find anyone competent to do the job.
I don’t *like* H1Bs and I wish we could do without them. The fact of the matter is in order to maintain our tech advantage over everyone else *because* of the useless gits our universities are churning out, we need some H1Bs.

Yes that’s right most tech jobs can be done from another country as many tech support jobs we’ve seen when we call for tech support. a programmer can sit in India and build a web site or app etc. from there And doesn’t have to move to the USA to vote for socialism . a company in the USA can hire this one from the USA. code , plans ,design can be done remotely. and with teleconferencing there is very little need to have to live here.
People will learn anything for money . if you can’t get qualified then pay more and you will . we don’t have to turn the country toward socialism just because you say you can’t hire in your 1 company or 1 occupation. Uh, again, go check my posting history. I am vehemently anti-illegal immigration, I am in favor of immigration limits, I am in favor of real immigration reform with the system based on merit and what the candidate can offer the United States. Also, where someone who is trying to immigrate legally from a first world country can get an answer on whether they will be permitted to proceed in less than a month - even if the answer is just ‘no.’ Right now it can take years even to get a ‘no’ back.
And again, H1Bs don’t get to vote, they don’t even get to stay in the US once their contract is up. The H1Bs aren’t the ones making the country socialist.
A friend of mine runs an import/export business in Italy. He makes a good amount of money there and would like to bring his business to the US and employ people here. He applied for permission four years ago.
He’s still waiting for the State Department to make a decision. They haven’t even given him a flat no yet. This is a guy that wants to come to the US as a business owner and employ American citizens in good paying jobs. But he’s not getting jack s**t out of State while thousands more Somalis who will never significantly contribute anything except a drain on the welfare rolls are getting the express lane red carpet treatment in being welcomed in.

So, tell me how you can remotely examine a machined part in a machine shop from another country, hm? Tell me how you can take that part to a test lab several miles away and run tests on it by remote, while keeping chain of custody? Telepresence bots to do that sort of thing are unreliable and cost *way* more than just hiring an employee. Same thing with hiring workers to do the ‘dumb’ carrying and showing for a camera, and even then a camera won’t tell the whole story.
Mechanical engineering jobs where you have to work with an existing team and get your hands dirty are *not* possible to do by remote quite just yet. This is *ENGINEERING* - designing, building and testing physical objects! Not wrangling code for software. (And even then, as Microsoft and others are finding out, that doesn’t work out so well sometimes.)
Meanwhile the other politicians voted for the Corker bill to empower Obama on the Iran deal and TPA to empower Obama on obama trade.Including the phony conservative saint, Ted Cruz.

The company was already paying $15K more over the US average for entry level mechanical engineering jobs. How much more should they have to pay? Remember, this was an $80K/year job, which anywhere short of the Left or East Coasts is quite a nice chunk of change.
Overstaying visas is a different matter than H1Bs. People come here on tourist visas too and overstay - should we just not let tourists come in? Per your logic then, we should never let anyone in for any reason, not even to visit, ever.
If the Feds would actually ENFORCE the laws and deport people that overstayed, this wouldn’t be a problem.

Senator Jeff Sessions also voted for it.
Senator Cruz fought against cloture on the Corker bill, he fought passionately and long that the Corker bill would turn the Senate treaty powers of the Constitution upside down. But once McConnell lined up his lemmings for Cloture of the bill, Senator Cruz came out sad and disappointed knowing he could not stop it, so he told the Press that he would vote for the bill because it would slightly delay it by a few months.
Here’s the thing: the Iran deal is ultimately about the $150+ Billion that is held frozen around the world as a result of sanctions. The deal is not a treaty, it is an agreement to release the $$$. For the US Senate to argue ‘treaty’ was dumb because those around the world with their hands on the $$$ don’t give a damn about US Senators and their arguments about ‘treaty’; it’s meaningless to them.
So although we’d like to admire Senator Cotton for his principled stand, his stand don’t mean sh*t in the bigger picture.
Here’s another thing: Barack Obama threatened Congress that if he didn’t get a deal he would go around them to the UN and get what he wanted which was a release of the $$$. HE PROMISED IF CONGRESS GAVE HIM THE DEAL HE WOULD HOLD OFF ON GOING TO THE UN.
HE BROKE HIS PROMISE. So Ted Cruz and Jeff Sessions voting for the Corker Bill to ‘delay’ it was in vain because it wasn’t delayed because Obama is a f*cking liar.
So regardless of the f*cking ‘deal’, the $$$ is on its way to Iran and their terror network.
McConnell should have stoked the House to immediately bring articles of impeachment for setting up a Senate trial but as you can see he’s an ass and a moron. As Donald Trump says McConnell’s a great part of the incompetence in Congress and the result of this incompetence is we are, as Ted Cruz says, going to have a war in the next 2 years.
Sorry for my profanity but this is bad all around and should make people max angry; but the logic/illogic behind the whole damn thing makes it difficult for people to get their thoughts clear about it. Once people understand the real story behind it, and once they understand there’s going to be a whole lot of dead Americans because of it, then Obama should be tried and convicted which won’t happen because political correctness has made Americans stupid.

How much more than $80K should they have to pay for a wet-behind-the-ears newbie engineer fresh out of college? Please, tell me, I’d like to know what you think they should be making. $100K? $1 Million? $10 Million?
Also, who said anything about the Politician Gods? You keep reading in stuff that isn’t there and ignoring things that are. DEPORT THE ILLEGALS, whether they snuck over the border or overstayed their visas (no matter what kind) and the problem goes away. Unfortunately, in the current system, it’s the politicians that decide whether deportations happen - so we have to vote for the ones that look most likely to do this.
How else do you propose to stop any of this if not with laws made by politicians?
The VA just got through killing one of my oldest friends by what he thought was intentional neglect. He died a very angry man and that PO’s me. He deserved much better.
New laws, policies with significant limits are needed across the board regarding immigration. Legal and illegal folks including H1B and the rest. It's the way it needs to be for now regardless of what some engineering firm in LA, or Bell wants for the right price. Those same engineering firms also hire thousands of illegals for their stoop labor through their contractors etc. The same firms bribe the politicians to get what they want. It's slow national suicide.
There are ways to put young Americans who'd really want those jobs into those jobs. I understand it's about their bottom line. I know most American and *foreign* owned biz here couldn't care less about American allegiance. Biz is about profits and bottom line.
It's a viscous cycle which makes as much sense as our government institutions, universities and colleges handing out worthless or unneeded diplomas to young Americans, while foreigners are invited in for good paying American jobs. All this while millions of others enter through federal government borders illegal taking a huge number of low tech middle class jobs. Who are the winners here?
This vicious cycle cannot be perpetuated. Like the man said, We're in big trouble. America is broken it needs to be fixed.
If the Senate had any sense at all they would say that since Obama broke his end of the Corker deal they would now treat the Iran thing as a treaty and require a 2/3 vote to ratify it. Too bad we have republicans in charge who have no self respect and no intention of protecting the interests of our nation.
