Conservative lawmaker may seek vote to oust Boehner

Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) said he or another conservative lawmaker may seek a privileged vote next month to oust Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) from his leadership position.

Meadows told The Daily Signal that he or another conservative lawmaker may file a privileged motion to “vacate the chair” and force a vote on who should be the House leader.

In July, Meadows offered a non-privileged motion to vacate the chair. That motion did not actually force a vote on Boehner’s removal. Offering a privileged motion would force a vote on the House floor.

“It’s very easy to say you are willing to pay any cost. It’s a very different thing to actually be willing to go through and lay it all on the line,” Meadows told The Daily Signal.

Conservative critics of Boehner criticized the Meadows motion in July. Even lawmakers typically opposed to Boehner considered the resolution ill-advised.

But Meadows insisted there are “many more” than 29 Republicans who would vote to oust the Ohio Republican.

Meadows has battled with GOP leaders for much of the summer. After he voted against a House GOP rule on trade legislation this summer, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) punished Meadows by stripping him of his subcommittee gavel.

After an outcry from conservatives who said the punishment went too far, Meadows was reinstated as the subcommittee chairman.

Exactly. The only thing I want to hear about Bonehead is when I can drive to his grave and take a bodacious Obama on it.

Even lawmakers typically opposed to Boehner considered the resolution ill-advised.

*********************************

Ill-advised only if you want Boehner out. Crybaby wanted an immediate vote, but was advised by McCarthy et al that a vote wasn’t wise because (surprise!) Boehner didn’t have the votes. The August vacay was considered an opportunity to get to people and twist arms ... of course, Boehner then goes and calls Cruz a “jackass” which didn’t play well in Peoria or wherever it was he was boozing & dining. We’ll see what happens when the House is back in session - I think he’ll keep his speakership with lots of Dem help - he’s the Dem’s not-so-secret weapon against conservatives and for getting Obama’s agenda through.

I don’t recall the events happening as ‘The Hill’ reports them here and I don’t trust ‘The Hill’.

I recall Meadows filed the motion to vacate the chair leaving it to Boehner to bring it to a vote and Boehner had McCarthy and Scalise whip the vote to overturn the motion only to find the votes weren’t there to overturn. So Boehner quietly tabled the vote.

I also don’t recall “conservative” critics as ‘The Hill’ describes them criticizing Meadows. Granted there are always those that support Boehner (because he controls their finance funds) but they are NOT conservative.

I believe that the actions of Boehner and McConnell are the reason for the success of Trump. I will not give the Republican party a dime as long as those 2 a-holes are in power.

Immediately after Levin’s interview with Meadow, an excited listener called into the show and declared: “Hooray for Mark Meadows. I’m so frustrated with this Congress!”

On Monday, Levin called for Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to resign.

You’re correct for the most part but the motion to vacate the chair was not tabled. It’s still an active resolution but because it was not privileged, it is up to the rules committee to bring up the vote (which they won’t since they realized they don’t have the votes to kill it). If Meadows brings up a privileged resolution, as I understand it, Boehner and the rules committee would have no say. It would have to be brought for a vote. Then Boehner would have to depend on his buddies the democrats to keep him as Speaker, which they probably would. But it would nevertheless weaken him.

His having a minion state they would bring up a motion to freeze funding to Planned Parenthood yesterday is an attempt to side track any such vote. The guy is worried, enough to have the connection to PP on his staff leave a few weeks ago. But, in the end, his tactics will keep him there because DC is too corrupt to make a change on its own. Viva La Trump and everything he can do to destroy this POS and his crony politics.

I am waiting for someone to challenge Trump on his saying he knows how the game is played with “contributions” which he calls bribes. He then needs to point out the ABSCAM inquiry of the 80s which was killed because of the number of politicians who had their hands out. Let go to its logical conclusion, the next vote in Congress would have been held at Danberry Correctional Institution.

Thanks cotton1706 for the clarification.

Here’s what Boehner intends to do to help save his job:

For the most part stock markets are confidence games where only the operators win at the expense of the little fish. Herman Melville wrote a neat book named “Confidence” that dwelled on that theme.
