Just so. I paid far more into the Social Security program over a lifetime than I’ll ever get back in SS payments. Plus I paid income taxes on the money I put in in later years, and then have to pay income taxes on the same money again when it is returned to me.
Yes, the system is broken, but because the politicians have used our contributions to make presents to their friends, given it to illegals, and all the rest of their law-breaking crimes.
The solution is not to make people pay into the system for a lifetime, and then to rob them of their return.
What really needs reform is the SS Disability payments. This plan has increased under the Obama administration. More and more people are signing up and receiving benefits than ever before. This program will go belly up in a couple of years if something isn’t done. People get disability for their kids who have autism. The average monthly check starts at $710 per child. I know a woman who is an RN - makes $1000 a week and gets $710 for her autistic child - not to mention she also gets child support from her ex. What crap!
(1) It is not your fault.
(2) It's the perp's fault.
(3) Notwithstanding both of the above, the money's gone and all the wishful thinking on earth won't bring it back. You just have to figure out how to get along without it.
It's exactly the same for Social Security.
Plus I paid income taxes on the money I put in in later years, and then have to pay income taxes on the same money again when it is returned to me.

Same boat I’m in. I already have 10% withheld from my s.s. check for taxes and I’m going to have to increase that amount. That’s in addition to withholding from other sources.
Paying taxes on s.s. received after paying in for decades through F.I.C.A. taxes is just plain wrong and now through “means testing” they want to cut what small per centage of it I’m getting back. The whole system sucks.
“The solution is not to make people pay into the system for a lifetime, and then to rob them of their return.”
The solution is not to expect others to “invest in big government” just because you did. There is no “return” on government. You are getting someone’s money. Yours was spent long ago. Your time to get your money then, not now.
If folks today are successful in keeping their money, you won’t get their money.
