Will the real conservatives wake up?
WaPO ^ | August 27, 2015 | Jennifer Rubin

The fiscal conservative group Club for Growth put out a news release that reads, in part:

“Donald Trump’s threat to impose new taxes on U.S. car companies will hurt the American economy and cost more American jobs,” said Club for Growth President David McIntosh. “It should thrill liberals and Democrats everywhere that Trump wants to create new taxes and start a trade war to force American companies to work where he demands.

“Instead of lowering corporate taxes, cutting unnecessary regulations, and fostering a more profitable environment in the U.S., as some Republican candidates have proposed, Trump wants to unilaterally threaten a major U.S. manufacturer with higher taxes.

“The strength of the U.S. economy has historically been our free markets. But, for the past seven years the Obama Administration has driven up costs for consumers by attacking free markets with costly regulations and executive orders. Now Donald Trump wants to one-up the Obama pen-and-phone method by threatening global companies like Ford with higher taxes to make cars for Americans. If Donald Trump gets his way, the heavy hand of government will get substantially heavier, and car buyers will be left holding the bag.”

Well, good for him, but why stop there? Trump advocates protectionist policies against Mexico and China, says NAFTA has been a disaster and advocates a huge scheme to round up illegal immigrants that would cost hundreds of billions in taxes (with no method for paying for it). None of this is remotely “conservative” or the sort of thing the CFG and other pro-market groups support.

For years, Rubin has been lecturing conservatives to stop with the purity tests. Rubin says gay marriage and illegal immigration are good for America.

Now Rubin is demanding conservative purity test for Trump

Wow! Another day, another hit piece on Donald Trump!

I guess everyone is still desperate to convince us that ¡Yeb! is the real conservative, hey?

Not like Trump can unilaterally do anything. These articles paint a dictator imposing his will on the people. Trump already listens to advisors, would he do less as President?

well ms. rubin, i’ve heard Trump on several occasions talk about lowering the corporate tax rate if not doing away with them all together. not sure your going to resonate as we’ve seen for a generation what “real conservatives” have been standing up to. except Mr. Reagan of course. that is capitulating to the rats.

These articles paint a dictator imposing his will on the people.

Of course they do. Obama ruling by the wave of his pen, no problem. Our talking about Congress addressing issues that need to be nailed down, an imposition. Why it's dictatorial...

High import tariffs served our country well for 180 years. We lowered them in the 1060’s and we’ve been losing industries to overseas ever since.

Our imports dwarf our exports. China only buys 1/4th of what we buy from them, and they use the excess funds to buy our companies and ship them overseas.

Trump is right. He will bring an end to the off-shoring. He will bring jobs back to America. And that will fix most of the government budget problems. Government revenues will soar from people going back to work. We have over 100 million Americans on food assistance. Government outlays will fall when people go back to work. So Government brings in more and spends less. That’s the way to balance the budget. That’s how you pay for Social Security and Medicare without raising taxes.

With the tariff income, Trump can lower corporate and individual income taxes making the tariff tax neutral to the U.S. consumer. But it will make a big difference to U.S. industries.

Rubin should know by now that conservatives know she’s a shill for Big Government Republicans and Democrats. The Washington Post wouldn’t hire a real conservative.

If Jeb doesn’t make up any ground soon, I expect the GOPe force Jeb and Cristie out and to rally around either Rubio or Kaisch. In fact, the GOPe would like the 2016 ticket to be a some combination of Kaisch, Jeb, or Rubio.

Shouldn’t the GOP-E pimps instead be asking Conservatives to go back to sleep?

Afterall, that the Conservatives finally woke up and realized what the Establishment has been doing to them while they slept; and that is why Trump is doing so well.

People need to step back a little about Trump. He is currently riding a wave of discontentment with the establishment ( both parties in my opinion) and I am all for him on this.

He has started development of his positions on immigration and taxes and these positions will be fine tuned as time goes on. In my view he is being slow to deliver positions because people are happy with him now. Vagueness always sells better than the fine print. So I would say we should give him some time.

My understanding as to his tax position now is that he is for drastic reductions in the rates of all taxes but he also will keep a graduated income tax so that the richer pay a higher rate. While I do not agree with this I like the fact that his top rate is 15 % and his bottom rate is 1 %. One thing about this is that even the poor pay. This is something I have long advocated, as everyone should be involved in the tax game. Now, if the richest end up paying 15% that should not upset any conservatives. (Yeah, it is not a flat tax, something Trump looked at a few years ago.) (and yes, he changes his mind. Well guess what, the congress has to weigh in on this tax proposal before we get it. So I would not hold my breath over any proposal at this time.

To me it is enough that Trump has some ideas for a better tax system. He is also for cutting the size of government. Why not live with these ideas a while and cut him some slack. (Unless the real plan is to end the Trump phenomena so that some Real conservative can get back in—Is that what this is?)

No I’m not wrong. Our Founding Father’s knew what they were doing. For the last 60 years, we’ve ignored their advice.

The Founding Fathers saw tariffs as maximizing freedom because it allowed them to avoid taxing American citizens. They saw it as a tax on foreigners wanting to sell into our markets.

Jonah - Lucianne’s son?

I’ve noticed that Lucianne.com is not particularly behind The Donald. Although they appear to be trying to impartiality. However, the posters there are mostly quite supportive.
