I Like Donald Trump. I REALLY do. But...
Vanity ^ | 8/29/2015 | Self

Though this is a vanity, I have linked to the foundational source of my point.

I REALLY like what the Trump is saying. I like his attitude, I lake his effectively destroying PC and his takedown of the MSM. I like seeing all the liberal and GOPe heads exploding. I especially like him running a screen for Cruz.

But I would be very concerned about a Trump presidency. If you look at his stances in the past and some that are current and couple that with is personality, attitude and MO, and imagine him as the "strong man" in the article in the link, you will see where I am coming from.

That’s my point. But my greater point is that the stakes are even HIGHER now.

I don’t know if they are. I believe with the Obama years we definitely turned a corner or passed a tipping point toward the Constitution becoming just an old piece of lamb skinned that holds no meaning for governing this country in fact.

The stakes were pretty high back in 2008 and even before.

But they are still high. I agree with you on vigilance but you should agree with me that breaking a chunk of the politically correct wall we’ve been imprisoned in is going in the right direction right now.

Trump isn’t being run by a committee in the way Obama was.

The stuff that has come in around Obama, using him as post turtle, is quite a potent evil poison indeed. Trump at his worst would not have such a coterie. We’d really be dealing with Trump, and not with ValJar and scads of other nameless lefty cockroaches.

The best thing about Trump may not even be Trump himself but in the room he is creating for conservatives to operate.

Perot was a stooge for Bill Clinton, no doubt about it. Did you fall for that one?

You be as vigilant as you wish. But the FReepers, me included, who are enjoying this are doing the right thing too. For two reasons. 1) life is short. This is the coolest thing in presidential politics that some of us have seen. We knew the media and a two party cabal had been crushing us and we see a spot of light above. Let us enjoy it for now. 2) don’t forget, we weren’t facing any chance of a true conservative president. By any means. This is better than a Bush or a Clinton. You’re a big picture guy as am I (except for the guy part) but there are no evidentiary red flags on Trump like we clearly discovered in 2007 about Obama.

The more popular the candidate, the greater the danger, all other things being equal.

Because thou sayest so, it is. Can’t argue with that airtight logic at all.

Trump isn’t putting in a weak showing. The GOP really will be punishing itself by cutting off its nose to spite its face if it Perots Trump.

Maybe your anger should be at the GOP, not Trump.

The thing I love most about trump is what he has done to the vernacular!

I also think we are MUCH more vulnerable than we were in 2008 and the stakes are higher now by an order of magnitude.

There’s always the possibility of a “Trail of Tears” episode. He goes off half cocked, the USSC says no (even with the right votes behind it) and he does what he wants anyhow.

But the flip side of popular/populist is that it gives the “We The People” of the Constitution a real meaning again. It’s up to the people whether they want that to be evil or good.

He’s frank, he’s honest. Even when he believes in something lefty, he says so.

If you had to fight a politician wouldn’t you at least want to fight an honest one.

Good post. I get your reasons, and your reasoning, except for this:

[...] there are no evidentiary red flags on Trump like we clearly discovered in 2007 about Obama.

In this I differ with you greatly. Look at his record, not at what's coming out of his mouth.

Texans watched Perot a little closer than the rest of the country. Perot did it not to help Clinton but to destroy Bush.

I am not angry at Trump, I just watch him with a suspicious eye. If he gets the Republican nomination, I will vote for him, no problem.

My donations and my primary vote will go to Cruz. By the time Texas gets to vote it is usually decided, sad to say.

There is no such thing.

The worst red flag, that Obama was clearly being run by a committee, is not true of Trump. It would never have been possible to persuade Barack to do a conservative anything. He had sold his soul.

If you want to be nitpick you can say more vs. less honest. But you are evading the issue altogether I fear.

GHWB was half decent in spite of the “no new taxes” fiasco, and Perot really was nitpicks.

There’s no direct analogy to that now, I believe.

No I am not - It is the nature of the beast. Politicians are no different than car salesmen... I have said it before, and I mean it from the bottom of my heart: Those who are not driven by principle are driven by something else - That something else is always going to be bad. Statesmen stand upon what they believe. Politicians wet their finger, tell you what you want to hear, and do whatever is best for themselves once elected.

I certainly do not agree. I think you are trading one tyrant for another... But he's OUR tyrant, right?

You may sincerely mean it, it doesn’t mean it has to be true.

I posit there IS a principle at play and it’s what it says on the surface: make America great.

Trump has already begun to grasp that specific progressive policies are poison to that. If this keeps up, it will dawn on him that progressivism itself as he has learned it is poison to that.
