More than a few Republican graybeards are panicking about how the rise of Donald Trump is pulling at the seams of the GOPs big tent. However, the Republican establishment itself has played a big role in creating this particular Frankensteins monster.
In September 2014, I found myself in Lexington, Nebraska, population 10,230. I was at a campaign stop with the soon-to-be-elected junior senator from Nebraska, and it seemed as if voters in this small town wanted to talk about one issue in particular. Just a few weeks earlierright before school was to startthe federal government had showed up in Lexington and dropped off 11 unaccompanied Central American children who had been scooped up in the recent border crisis. The handoff was done with little warning and without any apparent concern about how the folks in a small town with a small budget and limited resources were going to take care of these kids. The Obama White Houses lawless immigration policy had created an avoidable humanitarian crisis, and heartland voters were being given no choice but to deal with the consequences.
Despite the very real pain and costs associated with decades of federal neglect of immigration policy, both parties have treated voters legitimate concerns about the issue with disdain.
Its easy to see why voters have become radicalized on the issue. Republicans have long mouthed platitudes about enforcing immigration laws, with little to no follow-through. Democrats, eager to play identity politics, argue that border controls are essentially racist......
[SNIP worth reading]
Until the GOP establishment convinces voters its serious about immigration, Trump will dominate the debate. Thats because Trump is saying something voters want to hear on an issue the Republican party has been needlessly afraid to address.

Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
Walker went squishy this past week when he changed his position three times in three days.
He's for it, he's against it, he won't tell us his position until the new moon in November, 2016.
Wifey, Walker went linda on you, shame on him.
Now Paul is trying to set up a meeting with #blacklivesmatter, the new race card.
Notice the sophistry. First this:
“Republicans have long mouthed platitudes about enforcing immigration laws, with little to no follow-through.”
That, of course, is true.
Then he writes:
“Until the GOP establishment convinces voters its serious about immigration, Trump will dominate the debate. Thats because Trump is saying something voters want to hear...”
So it is OKAY for the GOP establishment to say what voters want to hear, with the emphasis obviously on merely saying what voters want to hear. Does anyone really believe that the GOP establishment has, from the heart, turned on a dime over immigration?
But—what about the DONERS???
You’re forgetting about the DONERS!!!
Eric Can’tor/won’t tried to lie his way into another term and we booted his lying weasel ass to the curb.
The Cheap Labor Express candidates:
¡Yeb!
Grahamnesty
Rubberio
NJFatBoy
Kasich
Pataki
Huckster
Paul
Fiorina
Walker
All of these people have expressed support for amnesty, which is death to America
Youre forgetting about the DONERS!!!
Unless you are talking about kidneys I'm not interested!
Well maybe a liver could get me excited.
Regards,
GtG
It’s over.
As far as I’m concerned; immigration control is the most important issue of our time followed by debt, deficit, economy, and jobs in no particular order. If fact they could all be handled at one time with the right leadership.
Nope. I don’t think they have at all. All they care about is winning and/or keeping the status quo.
I will never trust the GOPe ever again. All one needs to do is look at the weasels Boehner and McConnell to see why.
Not.
Possible.
They have squandered all credibility and good will.
they may as well all take Jeb's position, as any other position will be seen a LIES.
