Donald Trump may be helping Ted Cruz with his 'endgame'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is teaming up with his Republican presidential primary rival, Donald Trump, to host an upcoming rally attacking President Barack Obama's nuclear deal with Iran.

The event, which will be held in Washington D.C. on September 9, is one sign of Cruz's comfort with Trump. In fact, according to a recent report, Cruz might actually think Trump can help him win.

National Journal's Tim Alberta published a story Thursday that suggested Cruz and his team have a strategy to use Trump to their advantage. Alberta talked to Cruz, several of his allies, and experts who suggested the senator believes Trump will help activate the conservative base before ultimately fading.

"In the end, I think Trump will have generated the interest—and then Cruz will benefit from it," Bill Stewart, a former chair of the University of Alabama's political-science department, said.

Alberta described this as Cruz's "endgame."

Both Trump and Cruz are results oriented.

Trump could be a stalking horse for Cruz - he's proving exempt from the usual slimy tactics from the GOPe and the left and he's making the campaign season far more interesting to the average person.

Obviously it would benefit Cruz, but I don't see what Trump's motive might be, though. Maybe like Perot he really does dislike the Bush family.

To those Trump supporters who are reasoned thinkers— just curious— why do you think Donald would appear with Cruz? How’s it help Trump?

The man who wrote the “Art of The Deal” made one with Cruz already, and soon we’ll all find out what it is.

It puts him on another stage. Win-Win for Trump and Cruz.

Because Cruz is the only conservative and gives Trump some cred. I don’t think he considers Cruz a threat, more of an ally. Cruz appeals strictly to conservatives. Trumps support is all over the map.

Trump doesn’t have to have a motive.

If his biggest pet issues are illegals and the fight against Islam, that picks up Rubio, ¡Yeb!, and La Raza Rick Perry and body slams the three of them every time he steps up to a microphone.

Intent to help Cruz isn’t necessary for that to help Cruz.

Exactly. All this "stalking horse" nonsense is either the plutocrats in denial that Trump is for real, or an attempt to convince us of that.

Delegates delegates delegates. They give each other cred. Both of them going up in polls means less RINO delegates.
