Take a Guess Which 4 GOP Candidates Signed a Pledge to Back Amendment Banning Same-Sex Marriage

Out of 17 Republican presidential candidates, 4 have signed a pledge to support a constitutional amendment that would ban same-sex marriage. The pledge which would define marriage as the union between on man and one woman is sponsored by a non-profit named the National Organization for Marriage.

In a press release Tuesday, the group announced the names 4 Republican candidates that have signed the pledge along with 3 that have refused to signed.

No surprise in those who signed the pledge. Perhaps a little surprise in those who refused.

I’m actually surprised at the Huckster refusing. Linda’s refusal is no surprise at all. Don’t know enough about Walker on this issue to say one way or the other.

What is this - a little boy’s club - sign this pledge, sign that pledge. It reminds me of when we were kids and we would prick our fingers and swear to be blood brothers and sisters. Just signing a pledge means nothing - if they can’t get the votes in Congress. I think that is why some refused to sign this pledge.

Of course, we can get a Constitutional Amendment ratified, and some joker will go to the Supreme Court and get them to regard the terms “man” and “woman” as utterly subjective.

Frankly, this nonsense started in the seventies or earlier when some states recognized those who underwent surgery as being “reassigned” and therefore eligible to marry someone with the same chromosomes.

When words don’t mean anything, the Constitution is powerless.

Not a big fan of these assorted pledges various groups try to have presidential candidates sign, even when I agree with them. Prefer to hear the stump speeches and more detailed stances on issues from candidates who aren’t being pressured by various interest groups.

This pledge to support a Constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage is meaningless posturing. There is no way, even if every Republican voted for the amendment, that it would receive the tneeded wo-thirds majority in both houses of Congress. Even if this were to happen by some miracle, you would need three fourths of the state legislatures to ratify it. That means 38 states. Of the 11 Northeastern states, only Pennsylvania would possibly pass it. Of the five West Coast states, only Alaska would ratify. Even not counting Minnesota or other liberal states in flyover country, there are 14 states that will not ratify.

One reason Trump is doing so well in the polls is that he does not engage in meaningless posturing in supporting impractical solutions.
