Texas Governor Rick Perry's former chairman Sam Clovis has joined forces with Donald Trump as the race to become the Republican Party's presidential nominee got its first defection last night.

Clovis, an influential Conservative activist, college professor and talk-show host is now a member of Trump's team.

In a sign that the GOP front-runner is being taken seriously on the campaign trail, Clovis, has become national co-chair and senior policy adviser for the Property tycoon turned politician.

Earlier this week, Clovis quit the Perry campaign, after hinting that it was facing a host of difficulties.

The Trump campaign relished announcing the defection on Tuesday night, as it is a huge blow to Governor Perry who has run into financial difficulty and has been forced to stop paying staff.

Clovis said that he was both 'humbled and honored' to take on the role and join team Trump.

*snip*

After Clovis quit Perry's campaign he told The Washington Post: 'I feel bad for the campaign and I feel bad for Governor Perry because I think he's a marvelous human being, he's a great man and it was my honor to be a part of this, but it was just time to move on.'

Clovis becomes the first high-level member of a campaign staff to change allegiance during the race for the 2016 presidential race.

"Whoa! Who would trust this? He was a mole, or is a mole, or both."

Remember all these guys have one goal in mind, an office in the West Wing for the next four years as near to the office with the round walls as they can manage. The earlier you get on board the winning train the better your chance at getting that office that opens almost directly into that office with the round walls.

Trump reminds me of the energetic Ron Reagan of 1976. He was beat out by that idiot Ford, and I thought to myself, we’ve lost 4 of Ronnie’s best years out of 8. The last 4 years of his presidency he was slowing.

This world would be a much better place had the establishment rinos not put Ford in there in 1976.

Trump is no Reagan, but there are similarities in manliness, leadership, conviction and ability to think on your feet.

The downside of Reagan winning in 1976 meant that he’d have had a rabidly leftist and gargantuan Democrat majority in both Houses. It took Carter to get the Senate to go GOP in 1980.

“I’m hearing Jeb has called Trump to see if Trump would appoint him ambassador to one of the Latin American countries.”

DT: “Sure, Jeb. But only one of the poor, small, unimportant ones.”
