Ted Cruz was asked tonight the same question BillO asked Trump last night, if he would deport two illegal parents who have children that are American Citizens. But Cruz refused to answer it the way Megyn Kelly wanted him to. She accused him of dodging the question, but Cruz responded that the question that she and other mainstream media journalists want to ask is a distraction from actually fixing the problem of illegal immigration and then explained how to fix it.

He could not say what you stated because he would be lying -- he does not want to secure the border or deport anyone, including most criminals.
Cruz could not say what you wrote because, in the end, he is for 100% amnesty for all 40M + illegals.

How about this: Cruz only answers questions he knows he has the ability to do and doesn’t want a “yes” to constitute a promise.
Whether it’s a legitimate interpretation or not, the precedence here has been anchor-babies get citizenship. It’s stupid and doesn’t have any basis in the 14th Amendment or the 1898 cited SCOTUS case. The US hasn’t been enforcing it’s own laws on the books on the subject for over a century.
So fix it and get the right interpretation. Ok, but now what do you with those anchor-babies already deemed “citizens”. There’s a rule that a rule passed by Congress can’t go retroactive or something like that, but there’s also an argument that that wouldn’t come into play since there wasn’t a rule making these anchor-babies citizens to begin with.
All this means is that it ends up with these people going to the ACLU and the courts. And gee, what do you think the Courts will decide, all the way up to SCOTUS and the all-power Anthony Kennedy with his 4 liberal buddies?
So yeah, you shouldn’t need an Amendment or a new law to say something which already is law, but given the courts and prevalent liberalism that’s what it’s going to take.
One of 2 things has to happen:
(1) Pass a Constitutional Amendment fully defining Citizenship OR
(2) Congress use it’s Art 1 Sec 8 authority to pass a law clarifying and defining citizenship, while at the same time having an Attorney General with a brain and a conservative President that can replace the liberal wing of the SCOTUS to ensure the rule is deemed Constitutional.
Absent this, if they try to deport the illegal parents first, along with the children deemed citizens, the ACLU will get involve and the Courts will start the liberal rulings and will then apply bogus 14th Amendment logic regarding citizenship and illegals born in America.
Cruz knows either process is long and grueling.
Like when he stood alone on the Senate floor to try to defund Obamacare, or stood alone and called out the Mitch for prevarication, or hosting a conference call with 100,000 pastors today to defund Planned Parenthood.
Perhaps you have a different definition of “standing up” and acting like a man-?
Like when Cruz jumped in the sack with Paul Amnesty Ryan to enable Obama’s secret trade deals?
Perhaps you have a different definition of “conservative” because the insane idea of enabling Obama’s secret “trade” deals is certainly not conservative.

I supported Cruz until recently.
His comments today and recently on birth right citizenship has turned me 1000000% against this phoney.

Cruz is a weak man. If he cannot see the destructiveness of this illegal invasion then he should only receive our contempt.
He gave a decent answer, focusing on what most can agree with. He also said he was open to ending ‘birthright citizenship’, believing we needed a 2-prong approach to doing so. If you want to win - which is a prerequisite to DOING anything, then that is a good answer.
Wow, that’s pretty rough on the best of the entire lot out there. Trump may need Cruz if he’s going to last, and it is one heck of a long time until November 2016.

I understand what you’re saying but I think he may be playing a political game where he attempts to appear more moderate and then when given power will actually start deportations. We’ve got quite awhile till a final decision will be made and will have many more opportunities for him to sink or swim.
One other thing. Cruz didn't answer because he didn't want to lie to Megyn.

I’m not saying the kids will be deported. The parents will be deported and presumably bring their kids with them. It’s not like we’re sending these people to labor camps or something. We’d be sending them HOME.

Yes, Cruz came across a bit limp on this answer, but think of the pressure any candidate might be under with these “gotcha” questions. meGYN had plenty of time to mdream up this Q. Cruz is expected to react instantaneously with a perfect answer. Maybe the real response in these situations would be a counter-question such as: Megyn, you pose this situation of a family composed of an illegal mother and father and two biological children who are U.S. citizens. If you can explain how that came to be, then I will be happy to answer your question. If you can’t explain the premise of your question, then Donald Trump was correct -— There you go AGAIN!!!
