The e-commerce giant launches Prime Now in its hometown of Seattle, adding booze for the first time to the selection of eligible products.

Running out of beer or wine for that barbecue you are hosting? If you are in Seattle, and are a member of Amazon.com’s AMZN 0.65% Prime program, you are in luck.

Starting Tuesday, Prime members in Amazon’s hometown of Seattle can get one- and two-hour delivery of beer, wine and hard liquor like whiskey, rum, and vodka with the launch of Prime Now there, making Seattle the first U.S. city to include alcohol in the assortment of products eligible for the quick-delivery service.

Prime Now, which operates via a stand-alone app on iOS and Android devices, already operates in a number of major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, Miami, and New York, where it launched last year.

A whole hour?

A fellow can get mighty thirsty in an hour.

I was going to say that I didn’t think I could wait that long.

As one of my college roommates said: “I don’t have a serious drinking problem. I drink for fun.”

I don’t know how it works in Washington but if they do this in California will you be able to call at ten until 2:00am when the bars close and get more booze by 3:00?

"A whole hour?"

Yeah, you'd have to call when you open the last bottle and/or start the last case.

You would even get to ask the girls if they want some of that fancy wine.

It is probably a decent idea. However, I would have beta tested it in a city that is a little easier to navigate than Seattle. I understand that it is their ‘home town’ but in all reality a city like Columbus, OH would have been a better barometer as to its’ viability if for no other reason than it can be serviced with as little as one warehouse for a metro area of two million. I doubt one can traverse Seattle from a single warehouse, regardless of location, in under an hour. At least to most areas.

An hour. I can walk and in ten minutes I can get whatever I want.

I knew a guy like that. He always stocked up on Sat. because the liquor stores were closed on Sun.

It will be a handy service for people who are already lit.For them walking to the liquor store could result in a public intoxication charge.

How is this such a big deal/

When I lived in Cincinnati back in the sixties, we could get one hour delivery from Kentucky liquor stores.

If you're wondering, Ohio had those abominable state stores. And, under some obscure federal law, trade over the river between Cincinnati, OH and Covington or Newport, KY was not regulated as interstate commerce.

True, but that is blurring the lines of a politically correct response. Sounds like what a RAT would say when arrested. LOL

When I was up there last month for a funeral, I was surprised to find one of the “state” stores right inside a Giant Eagle grocery store. Separate cash register but at least didn’t require a separate stop. Not sure how widespread this is.

We just got a variation of that in PA with some large supermarkets finally being allowed to sell beer. You have to pay for it separately and the beergarden hours don’t always match the store hours.
