Having a celebrity socialite run the huge embassy was as foolish as it looked.

[Caroline] Kennedy came to her ambassador’s post with no foreign policy experience, no particular background in Japan or Asia generally, and apparently not much skill at running the $93.6 million-per-year operation that is the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo.

The first family headed back to the beach on Thursday, this time up-Island. According to the White House, the Obamas are spending the day at the beach in Aquinnah with Ambassador Caroline Kennedy and her family. They arrived in Aquinnah at about 12:30 p.m.

I remember reading history books about all these roustabouts who’d walk into the White House, back in the 1800’s, and demand to speak to the president then expect to be given a cushy civil servant job. I guess things havent really changed.

What a coincidence. Obama dines with Kennedy and suddenly there’s chatter about her email practices.
Trying to imagine him asking her if she’d be interested in running for POTUS. “No experience necessary!” Or Biden’s veep. Next to a Kennedy, Uncle Joe wouldn’t seem so sloshed?
