Having been on the receiving end of this type of garbage many years ago; I feel qualified to address it.

We had an 8 yr. old child. - Husbnd “met” the woman at work. She had a “supervisory” job, (unlike “nobody” me).

She “looked” clean, neat & well dressed. Of course, there was no way she could possibly be a diseased old skank. Was there? - I don’t know. Now, he & I go to the same doctor. I can’t broach the subject at this point. He goes off on a tangent if I do. All I can do is *hope* I don’t have crabs or some other STD. I’ve lived for the past 42 years not knowing for sure. AIDS wasn’t a biggie at that time. Of course, he *assured* me they “hadn’t done THAT”. So, all I can do is *hope*. (I do know that I dropped by her apartment the following evening & she already had her another “squeeze” lounging on her settee drinking beer & smoking cigarettes. My husband accused me of lying about that at the time. There was no way she would cheat on him! Ha!)

I asked him politely to stay with me because we had a small child. In retrospect, I wonder if it was a good idea after all. Lately, it just gets worse & worse. His “enthusiasm” for other women is still pretty active. Me? I’m nobody with a capital “N”.

When I was 9, my mother took my older sisters to Bermuda for a vacation. She had a fling with a waiter who sent her love letters after she came home. She didn't get found out, but the guilt got to her and she killed herself (with the letters in hand).

It sent our whole family on a whole different (decidedly worse) trajectory.

So now you spew out blathering rants composed in their entirety of hypocrisy and conjecture.

I didn’t just throw out hypotheticals.
I have known people who have picked up diseases from their cheating spouses. Including AIDS.

You keep vomiting out your assertion that these events are just speculation on other people’s parts.

By extension that has to reciprocally mean the story you related is entirely made-up. Doesn’t it?

Mr. Edd, you do not know the circumstances of each of these situations. Sure, I did provide hypotheticals, and you can’t say those don’t exist.

I did not say you couldn’t be right in some instances about disease. What I said is that you can’t categorically state that every case is like that.

I’m not sure if you have ever gone through a divorce or not, but it is almost impossible for even two people to keep things straight when the two of them start remembering events. Here you are a third party, and you’re seeking to explain to us what is going on.

You can’t know that completely, even if you’re best friends with one of the parties. You can only know what you are told, and people generally explain only their side of it under the stressful situation.

I recently had someone use that vomiting line on me. They were a third party to a conversation, and I politely asked them if they had referenced the other person’s version of events in that manner. No response.

You have made your assertions. I have tried to explain that you do not know what is taking place in all these situations. With some of them, nobody is being cheated on. You have a single male and a single female.

Who are being protected there? If the female can’t deal with it, does she deserve to die?

I’m not sure what story your referencing, since I’ve been talking to several people. If you want to link me to what you’re referencing, I’ll address it.

I’m suddenly put in mind of John Cheever’s “The Swimmer”.

Interesting concept. I’m not familiar with the story, but just read a synopsis of it.

Could you explain why you are reminded of it, what similarities you have found here?

I’d appreciate knowing more.

Just a bit of whimsical comparison on my part. But it’s the story of a guy who at first seems at the top of his form. Socially well liked. Popular.

He decides he’s going to swim home, across the county in the series of pools of those he knows...down what he calls the Lucinda River, after his wife.

It all starts so well, as old acquaintances greet him. Offer him drinks and small talk. Yet as he goes on, and begins to become fatigued, things turn. The crowds he would never have otherwise bothered with grow resentful of his interloping. One family is on vacation and have emptied their pool.

This goes increasingly down hill until he finally makes it to what was once his home which is now a decayed remnant of where his children grew up but are no longer about. The place is locked and empty and he ends up beating at the door to which there will never be an answer.

I was reminded of it by those guys who thought they were being so cool in this adulterous business, only to have reality finally hit them in their faces, herein to the point of suicide.

The short story was made into a film with Burt Lancaster. If you get a chance, check it out sometime. But be ready for its depressing ending.
