Trump: Walker's state 'is really in trouble'
The Hill ^ | August 23, 2015 | Mark Hensch

Real estate mogul Donald Trump said on Sunday he is not intimidated by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, given his fellow GOP presidential candidate’s handling of the Badger State.

“Well, I’m not worried because his state is really in trouble,” Trump told host George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I mean, it’s a fantastic place,” he said. “I love the people of Wisconsin, but if you look at what’s going on, they have a $2.2 billion deficit. They were supposed to have a surplus of $1 billion and they have $2.2 billion.”

“There’s tremendous divisions throughout the state,” Trump added. “He stopped a lot of work because he didn’t want to raise taxes. So instead of raising taxes, he’s borrowing to the hilt and his state is overleveraged.”

Trump then argued Walker’s handling of Wisconsin is proof he would fare no better managing the U.S.

“His state has not performed well,” he said. “We need someone who’s going to make it perform well, this country perform well.”

“I’m the one to do it,” the outspoken billionaire added. “And people are seeing it and it is being reflected in the polls.”

Trump’s remarks come as he leads the race for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination across multiple national samplings.

He additionally mocked Walker on Sunday for trying to emulate his positions.

“Scott Walker has changed his mind now, because he keeps going to his pollster, and his pollster says, ‘Oh, Trump has a good idea, Trump has a bad idea, oh no, wait a minute, Trump has a good idea,’ ” Trump said.

“These people don’t know what they’re doing, George,” Trump told Stephanopoulos. “They’re politicians.”

This is very telling of Trump. He's keeps repeating the Democrat talking points that are lies and been discredited.

FACTS

If you support Trump make sure he learns the truth.

This shows Trump's lack of integrity.

Umm...he’s running against Scott Walker for the nomination.

If you want to win, you don’t talk up your opponents.

So...Trump wants Republicans to raise taxes?

On a related note - thousands of FReepers will now begin embracing the writings of Paul Krugman, and quoting Thomas Piketty with abandon.

I don’t like this. He would do better to give credit where credit is due. Just like the candidates who refuse to attack Trump are doing better than the ones who do... its fine for Trump to counter-attack the other candidates, but his counters need to make sense. Usually they do; in this case it doesn’t.

Walker let it get to a point where he had to raise taxes or stop a lot of work and let it get so bad.

I wish all the GOP candidates would be a bit more mindful of Reagan's 11th commandment.

"Walker did an okay job, but I could do better", as opposed to "Walker did a lousy job, I could do better".

If you want to win, you don’t talk up your opponents.Trump: “but if you look at what’s going on, they have a $2.2 billion deficit. They were supposed to have a surplus of $1 billion and they have $2.2 billion.” If you want to win, you don't get caught repeating outright lies early on. You know as well as I do that someone has informed Trump of the facts since he first proffered this BS. This says a lot about his lack of character.

Is that what you want?

Well, then, if you’re not going to “stop a lot of work”, and yet not raise taxes, what exactly should be done? Unlike two-bit real estate developers, states generally can’t declare bankruptcy.

You do not attack the good record of other Republicans. That is not the way anyone decent wins.

Huh what? He let it get a point where he had to raise taxes or stop a lot of work and let it go bad. He chose stop a lot of work and let it go bad. He should have not let it get to that point and done something before that.

Well, that's true, but you don't lie about them either...

Trump is morphing into a politician right before our eyes...

I’m a big fan of Gov. Walker having watched him closely for the past 4 years. His biggest problem is that Wisconsin is a purple state, and while he’s done the right things as Governor for the most part, and has had pretty good support from the legislature, you can’t turn a state around overnight. Or even in 1-2 years, which is how long most of his reforms have actually been in effect after getting past court challenges that kept the biggest (Act 1) from being in effect for over a year.

Everyone likes to paint in black and white but reality is all shades of grey. I agree Trump and Walker should form a solid bond, because whether Walker stays in WI or has a different role, he will be an important element of putting the nation on the right track going forward.

I don’t often agree with Trump but, for the most part, he is correct about Walker and WI. Walker didn’t govern as a Conservative, but as a special interest monkey-boy.
