Mississippi's Most Dangerous Towns

JACKSON, Miss. – Onlyinyourstate.com has put out its list of the most dangerous cities in Mississippi.

The magnolia state is ranked the 36th most dangerous state in the country, putting it in the bottom half of states when it comes to safety. Home Security Shield helped onlyinyourstate.com come up with the list.

HSS says, “Our rankings are based solely on the data publicly released each year by the FBI. A crime is a crime, so we took both violent and property crimes into account when compiling our list of Mississippi’s most dangerous cities.”

The top ten most dangerous cities in Mississippi, according to onlyinyourstate.com, are:

10. Moss Point

9. McComb

8. Pascagoula

7. Greenwood

6. Vicksburg

5. Clarksdale

4. Cleveland

3. Greenville

2. Jackson

1. Indianola

The rankings aren’t surprising. But because the article neither links back to the original source nor explains the methodology, it’s not entirely persuasive.

For example, no matter how bad things are in Indianola, maybe it’s not nearly so bad there as it is in Camden NJ or E. St. Louis IL.

Moreover, although Indianola and Jackson look a lot worse on this list than do Moss Point and McComb, what are the percentage differences? And are they statistically significant?

Last but not least, if the article had been well done, I think it would have told us which cities and counties in MS have the SAFEST environments? Maybe that’s where I wanna be!

So, the 50th most dangerous is more dangerous than the 1st most dangerous?

This must be a liberal list.

Are you denying that a whole has two halfs?

This is what the article stated:

...The magnolia state is ranked the 36th most dangerous state in the country,
putting it in the bottom half of states when it comes to safety...

So what is wrong with that statement? MS is in the bottom half. The article
didn’t quote the specific ranking just which half it was in......

Take care........

The magnolia state is ranked the 36th most dangerous state in the country

That means there are 35 states which are more dangerous than Mississippi.

putting it in the bottom half of states when it comes to safety.

That means that more than half of the states are safer than Mississippi.

Yeah, the two statements contradict each other. ;-)

You're right. The article should have claimed that Mississippi is the 14th MOST dangerous state.

Or the 36th LEAST dangerous state.

But the writer didn't, and thus the confusion.

My mistake about the quote part.

Any school that calls its athletic teams the “Fighting Okras” should be avoided.

My sister lives in MS. The cities are like anywhere else. The countryside and the beaches are beautiful. I am jealous of her.

It didn’t seem very “dangerous” at all.

Not only that, but aren’t some “college” towns too?

What part don't you understand? Do you realize we only have fifty states? If Mississippi is the 36th most dangerous state, it cannot be in the lower half of safest states. It cannot be the 36th most dangerous state, and at the same time be among the lower half of the safest states. We don't have enough states for that to be true.

I’d be willing to bet on what they all have in common without bothering to do any research.

Yeah! It's those Confederate flag-waving, buck-toothed, swilling whiskey from a drum with the letters XXX on it, pickup-truck driving honkeys that's causing all the violence! < /S >

I didn’t see a link to their source material. How did you find out Mississippi is ranked #14? Or are you just guessing?

The article posted made a mistake in copying the text from the article:

The article is:

... http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/mississippi/most-dangerous-ms-towns/

As of 2014, Mississippi was ranked the 36th most dangerous state in the country, placing it in the top half of states in terms of safety....

The posted quote in the posted article cite:

“...The magnolia state is ranked the 36th most dangerous state in the country, putting it in the bottom half of states when it comes to safety. Home Security Shield helped onlyinyourstate.com come up with the list....

It should be “top half of states when comes to safety......

You forgot to include an essay on why it could be 42 or 3, and why you’re discriminating against the other numbers not included. Your heartfelt apology to those numbers should also be included.

36th most dangerous. That means there are 14 states that are less dangerous.

Therefore, if safest is the opposite of dangerous, MS would be the 15th safest. Putting it it the top half of states.
