Apple and Google Pour Billions Down a Green Drain
Watts Up with That? ^ | August 22, 2015 | By Steve Goreham

Posted on 08/22/2015 1:24:58 PM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

Business has been captured by Climatism, the belief that humans are causing dangerous global warming. Leading businesses announce plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, purchase renewable energy, use vehicle biofuels, and buy carbon credits. But there is no evidence that commercial policies to “fight” climate change have any measureable effect on global temperatures.

Apple and Google, the darling companies of the millennial generation, have spent billions trying to halt global warming. Apple has brought us the Mac personal computer, the I-Phone, the I-Pad, and other trend-setting electronic devices, becoming the world’s highest-valued company. Google has been called the most innovative technology company in the world, delivering the Google search engine that revolutionized use of the internet, Google Books, Google Maps, and now developing a self-driving car. But both of these leading companies have swallowed the misguided theory of human-caused climate change, hook, line, and sinker.

Apple’s 2015 Environmental Responsibility Report states, “We don’t want to debate climate change. We want to stop it.” Former EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson now heads up Apple’s environmental efforts. The firm boasts that it measures its carbon footprint “rigorously,” estimating it emitted 34 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents in in 2014. But somehow Apple missed the fact that carbon dioxide is a gas emitted in huge volumes by nature. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the United Nations, nature puts 25 times as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every day as all of the world’s industries. . .

The most aggressive of the regulations requires the nation’s existing power plants to cut emissions 32 percent from 2005 levels by 2030

The article is long oh rhetoric but short on financial facts. Apple has not spent "Billions" on green issues. The most you could point to is that Apple has made it's installations energy self-suficisnt, but that turns out to pay for itself by actually selling energy back onto the grid during times of low demand. Total cost for all of Apple's plants has been actually less than $1 billion of the several billion spent in building their server farms, so far.

Then they are going to have to find ways to make more CO2 to warm the newly freezing planet, lest we have the usual 2 mile high glaciers over North and South America and Siberia.

Such technology, Spielberg went on, could also be used to tell Obama’s story—to somehow convince future Americans, against all evidence to the contrary, that his presidency was an experience they would like to repeat.

Even Goebbels couldn't put that over.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a ball of fire that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

The iPhone 6 costs $240 to make in China: https://technology.ihs.com/528618/samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-pricier-to-build-cheaper-to-buy-than-comparable-apple-iphone-6-plus According to the World Bank, China produces about 0.7 kg of CO2 per dollar of GDP (probably lowballed due to the PPP adjustment). Therefore each iPhone results in 168 kg of CO2 or .168 metric tons. Apple sold about 170 million iPhones in 2014 which equates to 28.5 million metric tons, just for the manufacturing of iPhones.

"... have spent billions trying to halt global warming.

Really? Please explain.......meanwhile not being of the millennial generation and having gained a little wisdom, I don't think you can conclude something from incomplete data...i.e. the science on climate change/global warming...as the earth and Mother Nature are always changing there is precious little one can do to stop her or change her. It is enough that we each take care of our little plots, keeping them clean as well as our selves.......

If we fork over our land to the UN’s governance, they will turn the sun back on so we can all eat in equality. However, without evil coal, gas and oil it will get mighty cold until they can make the sun work right again.

What? Apple's China assembling contractor FoxConn's revenue is nowhere near what you are claiming. That would make Apple's contribution to FoxConn's bottom line ~$40 billion. . . in China, when FoxConn, the manufacturer of Apple's iPhone and manufacturer of the goods for over 500 other makers' electronic goods, was only $31.18 Billion. The problem in your calculation is that much of the components in Apple's iPhone and iPads come from all over the world, not just China. Those components are merely assembled in China. I think there are products from over 60 nations involved in the construction of one iPhone.

Apple is including all the transportation, including employees cars going to work, plane flights, shipping of parts and finished products, generating electricity, coal for heating the metals for smelting, mining, etc., and you name it, every step in the downline of their product chain, in the figures Apple use for "their" carbon footprint and not all of it is in China.

And they’ll claim success because they did something.

Never mind that what they did didn’t actually make any difference...

It's true, $40 billion seems high. But FoxConn made $130 billion in 2014 (4 trillion new Taiwan dollars) http://www.wsj.com/articles/hon-hai-2014-earnings-rise-22-1427714149 So it is plausible to get $40 billion in that revenue from Apple and maybe even just iPhone. You point about worldwide components is valid, I don't know who makes the parts.

I realize is including transportation and all but I think they are lowballing the super inefficient China component.
